I think so, but they might wait for a whole year after the 1st season is finished.Personally, It would be great if they don't leave too many mysteries or a cliffhanger after the first season... because it's already hard enough for me to wait for a week for a mere 24 min show!!

It tough enough waiting a week between episodes. A year would kill me. LOL
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

I think it still to early to say for sure, but as for now SAO get a lot of polish from studio, most of fighting scenes are well done.
What will be the minor factor are the sales of SAO merchandises. If it will be good then for sure we will see next season.

We already got more then most Anime by getting 25 eps. if they would want to make another 25 eps then we will most likely wait a year or even two minimum.

Good thing in SAO (i mean Light novel) is its episodic character. Every new vol is expansion rather then continuation of previous story, thanks to that we most likely wont get annoying cliffhangers at the end of each season.

iirc the current airing will cover 4 volumes of the source, which makes for 2 major story arcs, which i won't spoil here. if it comes that we have a season 2 of SAO then it'll probably cover Volumes 5-7, and some side stories.

If any of you are up to date on the light novel or if you've even read volume 5-6. You will know that it is almost guaranteed that there is going to be a season 2. I'm not just basing this off what I've seen so far, they've covered enough material to go on to the second season (Semi spoiler : Red Eyed XaXa was introduced) which is the "3rd major arc" and also the merchandise of SAO being purchased right now in Japan is heading OFF THE CHARTS. This reeks of money and is a HUGE potential to be a cash cow like J.c. staff's To aru majutsu no index.

So rest assured, they WILL have a season two but we will probably have to wait within the year.

the light novel is on volume 10 and there still continuing it if the anime/manga is a hit (which it is) we could see alot from it
even the whole series but i'm dreaming arent i

I'd like the novel to keep on going, but on Japanese forums, they state that the series might end soon as the UW arc world can actually kill Kirito due to the different rate of time. Not sure if i read it properly :|
BUT with 10 volumes already; that's quiet a lot, It looks like it's gunna end soon.

I wish they could make the "Fairy Dance" Arc and the other one with GGO..
But seems like only 1,2 and the 8th volumes for the anime.
And even with them, they passed some chapters or with little editing, they changed the plot a little.

(Kind of a spoiler: We didn't see them talk with KoB leader for the Yoruko case)
...You what?

I'm referring to both, as there are side stories as well in the Material Edition doujins, though not all of them are that impacting to the main storyline.

i think if they kill him off it would just be a bad ending

That's from the readers perspective. The author made a note in volume 9 with direct quotes from him

"Of course, this original novel is still far from finished!" - Reki Kawahara

I think I rather trust a source connected directly to the brain behind this brilliant story then a rumor and speculations that started up from inferences. Also add spoiler tags when you're about to say something directly from the novel as non-LN readers will be baffled by what you're saying.

Spoiler :
