Tenchi Muyo watching order?

So, I am thinking of watching all of the series under it. But there are so many that I get confused as which one should I watch and in what order? Can anyone clear up the whole saga?

Your guess is as good as mine. I stopped after the second OVA because I was confused as well.

The Ryo-Ohki OVA's (20 eps), the spinoff series Tenchi Muyo! GXP, Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure, Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari, 3 Shin Tenchi novels are by Kajishima, therefore are canon.
The Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, and Magical Girl Pretty Sammy are NOT canon. Consider them alternate universes made by other writers.

Quick ask, How is the Dual Series link to Tenchi? Which Episodes show the clues? Cause i did go through the 13 episodes part back on the 90s cable days. Unless episode 14 which was never broadcast had the answer.

It isn't in any meaningful way . The creator has said it's an "alternative version of the Tenchi Universe" which really means dick since it shares nothing story, character or setting wise since it's a completely different universe. However it was created by the same guy and produced by the same company as Tenchi so the similarities can't be missed and there are a few references here and there.

Since the question is very common and many people get easily confused; the link has a litle mind-map and I watched all the Tenchi related animes from the most similiar or sequels etc. And ending with the "other" (grey lines) since those truly were different, but still very good. Pretty much all the animes have some characters from the parent storyline and they were very creative with the alternative worlds, perhaps too much hahah. Hope you find the link helpful and I also hope that you enjoy the animes as much as I did :).

Dear Tenchi fans,

I'm currently watching the Ryo-Ohki OVA series and enjoying it thoroughly so far. After completion, I might want to give some of the movies a shot. I understand that the second one, "Daughter of Darkness", is considered standalone(-ish) while "in Love" 1 & 2 are part of the "Tenchi Universe" continuity.

So, if I jumped right into the first "in Love" movie after the OVAs, would I miss much? Are the "in Love" movies comprehensible and entertaining enough if one has not watched the "Universe" TV show?
