So I just have a quick comment on how this anime is listed.

It says "Mild Nudity" and is NOT listed as Ecchi...

WHY? I feel like this is sort of an important mistake here. I watched the whole series and I liked it, it's great, but... Holy Jesus. This series is SO ecchi that it boarders on hentai. Even the plot is something a particularly well-written Hentai would have. I was a bit taken aback by it all.

It's a good series, but I just feel like I wasn't given warning and that it SHOULD be listed as Ecchi. I feel like Elfin Lied and High School of the Dead, both of which are listed as Ecchi, have NOTHING on this when it comes to sexual themes.

And Mild Nudity? I... There are sex scenes in this series. A lot of them. Half the plot revolves around sex. And I'm not just talking implied sex scenes- These are honest-to-goodness-you-wouldn't-even-see-this-in-an-R-movie sex scenes.

Also, a side note- I want to kick the person who suggested this to me. I was like "I like cute romantic shoujo ai!" and he said "WATCH RIN WATCH RIN". ~_~

I did like it though, I can't deny it was good, but... Goddamn.

Um, I think you're over-exaggerating. Big time.

First of all, this an amazing series, don't demean it by comparing to hentai ;) furthermore, the nudity in Mnemosyne, while not light, isn't comparable to even the lightest hentai, nor is it especially erotic nudity. It's just there. If you want something that borders on H, go watch Queen's Blade.

The series doesn't revolve AT ALL around sex. Around love, yes, and there are times when it is used as a plot device to emphasize a point, as with the angels, but it really isn't that bad juxtaposed with the plot.

I do agree that it should be listed as ecchi. There is a decent amount of nudity in it.
Lemme smang it girl.

You're not right on the matter, sorry.

I adore Mnemosyne. It is in my top 10, and I could rewatch it countless times. Therefore, we agree about this anime being amazing, excellent, underrated, and better than any hentai out there.
That said, Amberleh's reaction, while a bit exaggerated, is understandable.
She tried to watch something different, but was unprepared, and got shocked.
You know, dude, most girls are not comfortable with nudity and the like, and want their anime clean. Moreover, she didn't say "omg mnemosyne sucks". She simply said "it's not my cup of tea".
It has a great story? Yes. It is the type of anime anyone will like? Definitely not.
Just because you can handle sex and gore, it doesn't mean every other person can do the same.
I find it pretty much absurd that such a borderline anime is missing the "ecchi" tag, and mods really should fix that.
I'd be pissed too if I wanted a good horror anime, but ended up watching hardcore bondage yaoi that was not even labeled as one.
But hey, you're probably the same person who claims that in Elfen Lied the nudity is necessary, a metaphor, emphasizes the story, or some bullshit like that. And mind you, I liked Elfen Lied, but I have no problem with admitting that the fanservice was all over the place.

To sum it up, Amberleh: read more recs before deciding what to watch. XD

Thank you for the defense Rena! I appareciate it.

Yeah I generally read reviews before watching anything so I know what I'm getting into, and I read that this was good so I checked it out.

Honestly, nudity and sex does not bother me too much if it fits with the story and adds something. Some of the sex in Mnemosyne was necessary and added to the story, but a LOT of it I felt just convoluted it and took away from it. There was no reason for it. SOme really was needed just to ground the story because the plot really did revolve around sex in a weird way, and at heart the story was a beautiful one, but there was just TOO MUCH sex. There were a lot of scenes that could have been left out and it would have helped the story to leave them out. Such as...

I really did like the series and I thought it was beautiful. Honestly, I would have given it a 9 or 10 but I can't give something a masterpiece rating when they convolute the plot with certain elements that really don't need to be there. You need to stick to your guns when creating something. Highschool of the Dead is a good example- It's totally tasteless and stupid, but you know what? You get EXACTLY what you're expecting and they stick to what they started with and it fits. They focus on three things and do them well in a way that fits altogether into a totally appropriately tasteless series: Boobs, blood, and zombies. That's all there is to the story and it works because that's what they set out to do.

And Elfen Lied. Well, I have a LOT of issues with Elfen Lied, but yeah, as Rena said, all that fanservice just seriously took away from the story. Some of it was fine, like the first episode where she breaks out stark-naked and starts ripping heads off- I felt the nudity was fine there. Didn't bother me, I felt it fit. It was when she was running around with no bra and having her boob squeezed and acting like a retarded catgirl that I started taking issue with the fanservice. Also, if you're going to draw that many naked bodies and severed limbs, you better damn well know how to draw anatomy, which they did not. ~_~ Mnemosyne had good anatomy, so I accepted it much more.

While I disagree about HSOTD being any good, I do get your point: Mnemosyne has a great and serious story filled with too much nudity, while High School Of The Dead is perfectly aware of its bloody ecchi trash identity.
However, I never really felt that the sex in Mnemosyne was out of place. Except for a couple of scenes, the sexuality was part of the plot, and it was integrated with the overall maturity and adult tone of the anime.
Mnemosyne didn't feel like a ecchi/hentai anime to me, it was much better than that, and seemed more similar to a R-rated movie (I mean the live action ones, not the animated kind). Just like I wouldn't be surprised to find some sexual contents in a movie for grown ups, I expected an adult anime like Mnemosyne to have such scenes.

Oh well, Elfen Lied has a moe character design, not a gorgeous, realistic one like Mnemosyne's. That's why the bodies anatomy sucked.
