| Very nice. I wasn't expecting this arc to end this soon nor this happily, but I guess that's what this anime is about. Seeing a sweeter side of Kyousuke was also a plus. |

While Kyousuke is billed as the main antagonist in the character summaries, the truth is a lot more complex. This episode more than hints at that, with the flashback to Kyousuke's youth and the display of altruism. And I should add, manly tears were shed... |

| This particular episode is what turned the series from an "eh, it's ok" to one of my favorite series. As annoying as Mary is in this episode, her little rivalry with Kaoru is ridiculous enough to be funny anyway. Grisham's ulterior motive was an interesting twist, but more than anything Hyoubu's secret assistance at the end, just for the sake of it, made me really begin to like him as a sort-of-antagonist. Well, and the episodes do get progressively better from here, too. I feel like, if this series had come along just a few years later the anime may have been great. Still, it's one of my favorites, lovable and interesting, though compared to the manga it's not nearly as well conceived. This is one of the few series whose manga I have read, because I became very interested in the world. I am not able to read most manga, but there's definitely some gold here, and I don't regret doing so. One more thing that stuck me as interesting about Ken and Mary ... their voice acting really does sound like (dramatized...) foreigner Japanese. Far more-so than the foreign characters in any other anime. It's annoying, but if you've ever heard someone who isn't used to Japanese speak it ... well, this is pretty accurate. |
