How fast were they going?

This is truly an awesome, face-paced experience, but I was wondering how fast exactly?

I examined the speedometer closely during the first race, but the numbers on it don't seem to make sense. Around 10 minutes into the movie, there's a closeup shot of JP's speedometer, and it looks like it's reading 240 at the max, but you can clearly see that the left side of the speedometer must peak at 260 before spinning to the right side. Perhaps some strange alien symbols for the numbering system?

If you look in the inner circle, you can see it goes to 200, then a slightly modified 2 for the next set of 100, then 300, and 400. Does this mean the speedometer was actually maxed at 340?

Also, what units were they using to measure? I know the outer circle was kilometers per hour, but what was the inner circle (it read k/m)? Certainly not kilometers per minute, as that doesn't convert correctly.

Perhaps I'm overlooking something simple.

While there's no stated numbers, they are written on the speedometer. I figure with so much attention to detail, they wouldn't leave something like this out. Especially with the zoom in shot showing nothing but the speedometer.

I dont think you are supposed to know how fast they are going or else people would have poked at the logic. and its just funner to just be in the show and not be wondering how fast they are going

I believe you probably have to take a logarithmic function in front of the numbers on the meters lol.

They mention the name of the unit in the first race. Watch that part again if you still need to know. I don't remember what it was anymore. Probably some imaginary unit.
