Okay, I've been following this story for a couple of days consulting a number of sources and newspapers. I don't really speak Russian or Georgian so I didn't even bother looking at their media. CNN, BBC, and other local American newspapers are my main form of info about this shit.

Soooooo........ virtually everything I read tells me that Russia is the bad guy. Also, there are a lot of speculation regarding the fact that Russia wants to control a certain fuel-export route in -- you've guessed it-- Georgia. Reports say that Russian fighters shoot down a Georgian plane, Russian bombers bomb certain parts of Georgia... YADA YADA.

But, I stumble upon a certain article in the Washington Post which tells me that the timeline of the events have not been considered!!!!

here's part of the article:

American newspapers have run story after story about how "evil" Russia invaded a sovereign neighboring state. Many accounts made it seem as though the conflict was started by an aggressive Russia invading the Georgian territory of South Ossetia. Some said that South Ossetia's capital, Tskhinvali, was destroyed by the Russian army. Little attention was paid to the chronology of events, the facts underlying the conflict.

Last week, Georgia's president invaded South Ossetia during the night, much as Adolf Hitler invaded Russia in 1941. Within hours, Georgian troops destroyed Tskhinvali, a city of 100,000, and they killed more than 2,000 civilians. Almost all of the people who died that night were Russian citizens. They chose to become citizens of Russia years ago, when Georgia refused to recognize South Ossetia as a non-Georgian territory.

SO.... what now? ANy shout-outs? Opinions? Let's hear it.

hre's the full article btw:

First of all.. I AM Russian so you can accuse me of being a bad guy) In fact we live now in world that is ruled by mass media... No doubt that american and russian papers will cry out loud in the way that that our countries say so, but... In fact there is undeniable truth, that the first attack was commenced by Georgia side.. Thay attacked not only South Ossetia itself but also the killed russians that were there as peacekeepers... This little war was started by Geaorgians.. Russian planes indeed atacked, but they were defendin Ossetia and returned the strike to the aggressors. There was no any kind of attack on Georgia cities..

I know i am lil bit too late about this post, but i have nothing else to do at the moment xD

"Forged in darkness with wheat harvested from Hell's half acre. Baked by Beelzabub; slathered with mayonnaise beaten from the evil eggs of dark chickens, force-fed to dogs by the hands of a one-eyed madman. Cheese boiled from the rancid utters of fanged cows. Layered with 666 separate meats from an animal which has maggots for blood."

No, the Russians aren't the bad guy in this case IMO. The Russian military was moving to protect ethnic Russians who, AFAIK, make up the majority of South Ossetia. At the same time, Russia is one fucked up country in how corrupt it is so I don't blame people for assuming the worst about that country.
