Chieko was quite the good heroine in this Lupin special, even if she is the cop that gets taught something by her prey and falls in love in the process kind-of-character.

I thought the Napoleon spin on the word "impossible" was enjoyable, though the bad guys did not really leave much of an impression.

I disagree; I think exactly what you describe makes her very dull. Jigen's criticisms of her, and her reflections on them later, don't even make much sense. Trying to portray Lupin and company as being morally superior is really tough to swallow. Her being so easily swayed just makes her seem weak-minded and lacking in conviction. Why should I care about this person? Her character design is very uninteresting, too. The one-shot heroines from the previous two TV specials had much more distinctive designs.

This movie is unusual for Lupin in its political content, but it's pretty hacky and not worth talking about. It's also a bit more violent than usual. A soldier covered in blood after being shot by Jigen can be seen being helped to his feet.

It was amusing in a cartoonish way that Lupin's grandmother was depicted as looking almost exactly like Fujiko.

Multinacional Force: We have an army and missiles.
Lupin: We have Goemon.

Goemon pretty much saved this special to me, I loved how he was just so moved by that movie that he acted like the protagonist of it. It shows just how devoted he is to his duty, and I don't know, how he is still 'pure at heart' somehow. xD I loved the smile he had when Lupin played along using the movie line when they went to fight with him.

Fujiko's role was small for most of the special though, and she wasn't at her best here either, but I still liked her moments. The guy who was going to be her target, but was in cahoots with the hot CIA agent who tried to get the treasure for himself, just disappeared too. Jigen and Zenigata were 'fine' too, but Kido wasn't all that compelling.

After the reading the synopsis I was looking forward to see something similar to a scavenger hunt, kinda disappointed with what we got here, not even a happy ending for Zenigata.

Tried to formulate my thoughts on this as I was watching it, the same I did with Babylon, Fuma, Cagliostro, and The First, but I don't know what to say here. This is an episode of Part II, though at a movie's length. It doesn't feel slow, I guess. I'd say this ranks with some of the better episodes of Part II. Hate to say it, but my two-way tie between Fuma and Cagliostro has become a three-way. 8.25/10

I've seen many people think this is among the worst Lupin movies, but after having seen it I actually disagree. It had a coherent plot (if a bit straightforward), was entertaining, had attention given to both Zenigata and Goemon (...that might be my bias, since I like both of these characters) and didn't bore me once across the entire 90 minutes.

A solid 7/10 from me.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
