Isn't Kou both Ikumi's fiance and cousin? Does that mean he parents want her to marry her cousin? I'm someone that's perfectly fine with incest, but I'd never imagine parents would intend for incest though.

also, Ikumi falls for a person that fell for someone else's fiance, despite having a fiance herself; ironic isn't it?

In Christian culture, marriage with a 4th-cousin and beyond is accepted. 3rd to 1st is not. I think that's for Catholics. There are 2 more: Eastern Orthodox Church, and Anglican, which accept 3rd and beyond (I think) and up to 1st-cousins respectively.

And basically, all around the world in many different places, marriage between cousins is allowed (and it differs because there are places that accept up to 1st-cousins, others only up to 3rd and beyond), marriage between cousins isn't.

But here, we are talking about Japan, a happy place to live in because they don't give a shit about Western ideologies.

If you start questioning so many things about incest between cousins, then you aren't watching this with the proper mindset. But if you just want to clear up the "love polygon," you'll just have to pay attention to the anime. It's all reflected in the characters eyes and expressions, which to me, is one of the lovely things about this anime.

you from that region? if so then got a question why is a lot of yuri manga have had the tagline "that kind of marriage isn't legal here". is that a English translator changing it to fit the western culture or has Japan not adopted a marriage equality law yet?

Same-sex marriage is not legal in Japan. I think that's what you wanted to know.

Incest in Japan is even "more legal" than same-sex marriage. We can see from Japan's history: women were treated as lower than compared to men, and there's the whole samurai code (bushido) which basically states how the man should be the leader figure (basically saying "You're a woman, a lower being, so you will bear my children and care for them" because men can't have that job since they have their honour to retain if ever gay marriage was legalised). And as for incest, there WERE even incestuous relationships between emperors, empresses, princes, and princesses. That's mainly because Japan isn't a Christian nation. Which is why America likes freaking out over it as if it's such a big deal when it's only because in THEIR culture, it is perceived as "unnatural" because they have Christianity as their religion.

I kind of got that. just seemed weird that a culture that has 'literature' that is very open minded would have a legal system would reflect it. most be a form of juxtapose, open minded literature: close minded laws. Side note on Christianity its amusing they freak out about incest but logically speaking its holy book has 2 cases where incest would have be the only likely course of action..... but that fact seems to be glossed over in Sunday School.
