THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Damn this is a great anime. I'm actually surprised this episode was good, considering the plot involved such tired cliches like a legendary king-sword sealing an ancient evil.

I always liked prominent narrators, because they provided a certain historical authenticity, if necessary. Gieve is especially interesting. He breaks the fourth wall left and right, but does it without breaking character. He truly likes to witness all events from many perspectives, and then summarize them out-loud with a voice he loves hearing. These observations are nothing new of course. I just felt they stood out this time.

Andragoras made good use of his limited resources. I can't imagine a single hostage will let him go free, even one of royal descent. Then again the former Parsian King is ridiculously buff, so maybe he'll overpower the opposition.

Damn, only one ep left. Just when the story is showing strong signs of taking a majestic shape
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

I wonder if that Hermes is the real Hermes.. (because Andragonas said he died or is an imposter or smthg?) He does look like Arslan though

I don't know how the story can be solved in one more episode, really.

I waited almost 16 long years to see this episode! I heard a few things about it and it is true another company took over production, the intro is impressive, talking about this snake king etc. So it becomes more like a fantasy, however I don't like the newer animation at all, compared to the first two it is cheap, though more colourful. The amount of action in this short episode was negligible, don't like most of the new voices either. Now Silvermask was one fearsome fighter as seen in his entrance. Gieve or Giubu, whatever you want to call him, made him look rather useless! Really doesn't fit and suddenly he doesn't appear so menacing, one can argue he lacks Arislan's virtue but he made up for it with his strength, Gieve danced around him like he was a statue, humiliating one of my two favourite characters here! So the sword was briefly taken, Zante as Gieve points out shows surprising wisdom, I felt sorry for him having a sword placed on his head, Silvermask turned soft and let him off... This plot with the serpent king and the sword is sinister to say the least and warrants a continuation surely, that no good sorcerer at last we know what his motive is.... Now other than that I felt there is nothing much else good to say about this part, the great advance towards Ekubatana only reached half way though they made it out like they were within reach of the Capital in the previous episodes and now they've gone back to Peshawar to fend of what looks like a nation of Huns. Now the shock revelation comes at the end with the mighty Andragoras back from the dead! In the english dub he died of illness, a bad mistranslation, he looked as good as dead but he proved cunning and dangerous, Giscal certainly looks like a man who can battle but just some rusty chains is more than enough for the near naked King of Palse to overcome him! Andragoras has no value other than his power but somehow I can't find myself disliking him, in a Manga full of fairy men he offers relieve in the form of some masculinity

Wow is it just me or the art, animation and the story telling was way better than the ones before this? It got cleaner and simpler but the details are there so no complains here. XD

What a big coincidence that Turan settled their internal squabbles to finally attack Pars while it was fighting to drive another invader who captured their capital and may very well be on a war for royal succession. Sun Tzu would be proud... And where's the princess from the other kingdom looking for Hermes now and her guide, the mountain bandit who admits to be the second best archer in Pars?

Oh dear I hope they settle some of these lingering questions and loose ends on the last episode.
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

This. And I know, they should have just killed off Andragoras, he's only in the way. But even as a fervent hater of his character, I did fangirl a bit when he busted out of captivity like some kind of heroic legend. That's where Arslan gets his small bit of GARRR from

Only 1 episode left, even though it feels like it's reaching the climax. qq

I like the little flare of supernatural in it and how it's blended in so naturally.

That snake god cult at the end strongly remind me of terraists from LoGH, only way better suited to the universe.

What a shame there's only one episode left, of course there's the new TV adaptation, but I much prefer art style of this anime.

Kind of disappointed the holy sword was thrown away and we didn't get some serpent killing action.
