According to Asahi.com, anime producer Nishizaki Yoshinobu passed away on November 7th. He was 75 years old. He fell from a ship to the sea near Chichi jima island.

Nishizaki established Office Academy in 1963 and produced Umi no Triton with former members of Mushi Productions. In 1973, he launched Uchuu Senkan Yamato project. He had disputed with Matsumoto Leiji and Touhouku Shinsha over the copyright of Yamato for years and reconciled in 2004.

Nishizaki had been arrested for illegal possession of firearms and stimulant drugs twice and was sentenced to five years' imprisonment in 2003.

So tragic. Umi no Triton is bad, but Uchuu Senkan Yamato is definitively a classic (and my first anime).

Anyone else thinking this might be a suicide? It seems like he had been in a tough spot for a long time in his life and it doesn't seem completely unlikely, especially when you consider how rare it is for something like this to happen by accident.

RIP: Space Battleship Yamato was a classic that will live on for ages.

I was thinking this too after I read about his life. I never heard of his works, but may he rest in peace.

Another original in the industry has passed on, RIP.

This year the anime industry was cursed taking down too many people before their time but there were losses of legends and originals who founded the anime industry.

Just because this year the deaths of those Mangaka/Producers/Creators were in the news doesn't mean that people from the anime/manga industry weren't dying the past years too.-_-

He probably never got over Matsumoto taking the spotlight, lol it's Leiji who's deserving the title anyway for creating such a wonderfull universe. No tears falling for that crazy addict. As others have mentioned, probably an act of suicide.
