Anime of the month october: Kino's Journey

“Whenever people see birds flying through the sky, it is said they get the urge to go on a journey.”

Kino’s Journey: The Beautiful World is the story of a young traveler Kino and her talking motorcycle Hermes. Travelling the world because of a past promise, Kino vows to stay in each city only 3 days. Doing this she is able to understand the places without growing attached to them. Driven by her own existentialist ideas, Kino remains fairly passive throughout the series, a witness to tragedy and happiness. Many of the stories take on a philosophical nature, ranging from religious manipulations to dwellings on the negative sides of direct democracy. Throughout the series the characters never lose their sense of being human, rather that be them being driven insane by surrounding situations or achieving their greatest dreams and desires. Throug all these journeys Kino sees the best and worst of humanity, and finds that “the world is not beautiful, therefore it is.”

Has some interesting premises, but most of the episodes are kind of boring. Episode 2 is fantastic though, and made the whole series worth watching. 3 out of 5.

It somehow reminded me of The Little Prince of Saint-Exupéry. I absolutely loved the symbolic language of the anime. each and every episode was a master piece.
