Next nakama?
| Remember way back in the beginning of One Piece when Luffy said he was going to need 10 members to join his crew? (Proof?) So far, he's recruited eight. There's obviously going to be a next character to join soon. Who do you think it is? Let the speculating begin~ |

| I was kinda hoping for more than just 10. I mean it kinda limits the crew a bit. Im going to vote for hancock because well, shes drop dead awesome & she needs more screentime. On a side note though. What if Luffy meant 10 EXTRA crew members. I mean it's 9 atm INCLUDING him. If he meant 10 more people then obviously we're in need of another 2 :) |
| I would say Boa is first, just cause how her virus was put up and can be used as a powerful reason, if Luffy is gone she dies, shes certainly strong on her own, problem is she loses her title and forsakes her island, unless she becomes a secret nakama, which would makes thing amusing on another level. If not her its gonna be Jinbei, more for Ace's sake and maybe if Luffy becomes a stronger pirate, he can defend Fisman Island like Whitebeard, something like that. If neither Schichibuaki join then im gonna be disappointed. I will say this though, he got 4 members in East Blue, 4 in Paradise, now the final stage is the New World, if there is a pattern, we might see a complete dozen nakama for Luffy. |
| Although I'm doubtful, I really want to see Hancock join. Although I'm sure there will be at least 1 more person to join in New World, it'll kind of feel cheap, like they cheated the system by joining late, lol. Oh well, so long as it's a good addition, I wont have complaints. I'll complain to no end if it's another comedic character. |

| Brook joined basically one week before they were split so he never really got a chance to do anything memorable, besides cheap laughs, Usopp, Franky and Chopper. Its One Piece, action and laughs go hand in hand. Me personally id be disappointed if the series all of a sudden wanted to act more 'mature' like certain other series.... Frankly Perona would disappoint me, not that im bashing, its just well....umm lets see...eh actually I just dont like her, shes pretty useless and annoying, her laugh on every episode would drive me insane. |
| I went for Boa as well... She is strong, she has a few laughs and she also adds a bit of romance to one piece! which I personally think is a good thing, the feelings obviously aren't being reciprocated but luffy is growing up it is only a matter of time, pirate king gol d. roger has a romance so why can't the future pirate king monkey d. luffy! Plus she has that illness where she will have to be with him so you know, if she doesn't then I think it will be silly :O I really like SkyFades idea about fishmen island, not so much jinbei joining them, just that luffy could end up defending them, it will completely depend on the situation in fishmen island when they go there! If it is a shambles and SH fix it then I can see it happening, would totally be awesome as well |
| Personally I see Jinbei joining them, I mean Boa already has the Kuja pirates and (assuming) will probably still have them and her title when the time skip is over, so i doubt she`ll be able to leave them |

| Yes but you can't forget if she is apart from her love then she dies... that is why the little old lady had to leave the island... so either luffy breaks her heart or she joins them and breaking a girls heart totally isn't in luffys character, he would also make a powerful enemy so I just can't see that happening |
| I voted for Perona just cause it seems like she's got no where to go and she's becoming very chummy with Zoro (bandaging his wounds, giving him the newspaper about Luffy, etc). She also doesn't really seem to want to stay there, but that could all change in the time skip. I say she's got a 30% chance joining up with the strawhats. Honestly though, I think it will be a new character since none of the ones listed seem likely to me. Boa - she's got her own pirates and it seems more like she would be a pirate ally (sort of like how WhiteBread had a bunch of other pirates under him) rather than an actual crew member. Cammie & Hatchan - Hatchan's dream is the Takoyaki stand and Cammie seems pretty attached to him, so I don't see these two joining. Bon Clay - I don't mean to be a party pooper, but I don't think he's alive....then again, you never know, but I doubt he'd be able to get out of Impel by himself. Jinbei - Like Boa, he seems more of an ally than crew member. I bet he's going to play an important role in stabilizing merman island and will therefore be needed there. I think out of all the characters, him and Perona have the best chances becoming crew members. So I guess Jinbei or Perona from current characters, although my gut feeling tells me it's going to be someone new. If she can handle that, there is no reason she has to be around him 24/7. Like I said before, I see her more as an ally to the Straw Hats than an actual member. And like SkyFade mentioned, OP is about laughs. Boa's crush on Luffy is played for that and nothing more. I just don't see her becoming a member. Right after Hatchin and Cammie, she's the one that is least probable. I think he's a great member. Sure he's played for laughs (but so are Chopper, Nami and Franky), but he's nowhere near Ussop's level. He's got some good swordsman ship and he was a former captain. Like SkyFade said, he seems useless because he's new and hasn't gotten enough time to show his stuff. If I were to rank him, he'd be around Chopper/Nami's level: not too strong, but still useful in fights. |

| The only theory that works for Bon chans re appearance is if right before Magellan attacks, Blackbeard arrive and wipe him out and simply ignore Bon afterwards, its a stretch but kinda possible, unless im getting my times mixed up. True Boa makes the most sense and as well has the most going against her, and true if she can be without him for 2 years then thats well enough, Jinbei is the simplest easy to join since him joining isnt much of a change, but doing it for the sake of Ace seems kinda cheap as well. I just cant picture Perona, I dont see it, Cammie or Hatchi at this point make more sense, also no one mentions Margaret, granted she more like a second hand Boa but still she had her impact and interest in Luffy. |
| Breaking a girl's heart may not be part of Luffy's character, but at least up until now, Luffy doesn't actually REALIZE that Hancock is in love with him. She's just that nice lady who keeps helping him out and lavishing with praise, who is also the princess of an island of (what used to be) Mystery women. I'm not calling Luffy stupid, but I seriously don't believe that the fact that this psycho (I love Hancock by the way, I'm just calling it like it is while I'm at is xD) woman is in love with him has EVER even come close to crossing his mind. I'm sure he'll view her as a nakama for the rest of his life, but he's done that with a couple of people (notably Vivi, who though she was once a member of the crew, doesn't actively sail with them). Like Coby for instance. They aren't crew mates, but they'll always be friends/nakama. Plus, Hancock wouldn't fit into the crew dynamic at all. She'd try to kick Chopper around, and though she would probably follow Luffy's orders to the letter, no matter what Luffy said, she could never be able to bring herself to be beneath Zoro and Nami in the pecking order in a managerial crisis. Because regardless of whether Luffy ever falls in love, or takes on a lover, Zoro's place/power as First Mate and Nami's as navigator can never be circumvented. She'd also cause serious problems for Sanji, because he'd be torn between his Nami-swan and Robin-chwan vs. the beautiful Boa Hancock. Hancock is NOT about to get along with Nami, I can tell you that much. They're both too high strung. I voted for "Other", but I believe that either that is going to come to pass, or there's a slight chance that no one new will join the immediate crew (I DO believe however, that regardless of who else joins, Luffy will begin to, whether intentional or not, rack up allies, rather like Whitebeard did.). Right after Luffy set out from Fuschia (or Windmill, if you will) Village, at the very beginning of the story, he stated that about 10 strong members would make a good sized crew. Counting him, that's 9 members already. So following his original gut, which, if you notice, he's prone to keeping taut to, there's room for either one or two members left. ... I feel like I need to shut up and let someone else talk now... EDIT: Oops! I totally didn't read the first post, which is why I totally didn't know that the 10 members thing had already been brought up. SORRY! -is sheepish- |

You're right about BlackBread. I guess I assumed Magellan used a fatal poison based on how angry he was while BB was busy freeing all the criminals and making them fight. If he did than only BB's group could cure him, and that I think is highly unlikely. But again, what happened was very vague (last panel we see is Bon preparing to fight Magellan) and quite possibly on purpose so that Oda could bring back Bon Clay. (I recall reading somewhere Bon was based upon a okama friend of Oda's, so he might be attached to the character and bring him back). I agree Perona isn't very likely. It just seems to me out of all the characters listed, she's the one with least in her way to join. The others have some kind of commitments or dreams, while Persona is just there doing nothing. Then there is the fact that she tended to a wounded Zoro and the two seem to be talking/ on friendly terms. But I ultimately agree, I can't see her going with Zoro, or him asking her to come. |

| I think it'd be cute if Perona just kind of hung around on Mihawk's island, and maybe showed up later in the series as an ally (kind of how Hatchi did). |

| As for laughs Boa would be funniest, her agreeing to Luffys every demand to the dismay of the other members, her constant jealousy of Nami and Robin, a jealous Sanji of Luffy and so on. Regardless its also quite possible they are all teasers and from now on its gonna go ala Whitebeard and start building up allies, and having 2 former Shichibukai isnt a bad start, plus Water 7, Thriller Bark people, Alabasta, Kamabakka Kingdom and maybe Skypiea as well. Thats a nice group of people. It is fun to guess for One Piece, so many possibilities, and most guesses usually turn out to be horribly wrong, ahem....Paulie instead of Franky, Wiper and Vivis and so on. |
| I wanted Boa Hancock to join but I doubt she will, knowing she has an island to protect. Plus she is a Shichibukai, making the percentage of her joining less. Also I think the Straw Hat Pirates got enough humans and "weirdos" in it - but how about half human half animal? So I vote for Camie, although she's pretty useless.... :D |

| I think it will be a new character that they will meet at mermaid island...but not camie, hachi, or jinbei. It will be a mermen that is strong fighter and can communicate with the fish. [after all, they have variety in that crew: cyborg, reindeer, skeleton, rubberman, demon(that is what they called robin)] I also think that he only needs 10 crew members to go to the new world...I think he will make more members while traveling. I just have a tentative theory that at sometime they will break into the holy city where the celestial dragons live or maybe have another encounter with them...just a thought |
