TrackMania, the number one worldwide PC racing game, is not only getting a sequel but two spinoffs and a user based design hub. Ubisoft, along with Mania developer Nadeo announced this project, titled ManiaPlanet,at their E3 2010 event as well as incoming betas for both TrackMania 2 and ShootMania and a further title, QuestMania.
ManiaPlanet is intended to be "the world's first user-powered PC game zone”, players will have access to universal matchmaking, editing tools and a vast community system to make, edit and distribute their own maps, tracks and levels to other players. ManiaPlanet will act as a hub to the three announced Mania games and will provide a simple way to interact with fellow mania players and download and upload user content.
TrackMania 2, the sequel to the PC racer with a strong player base of over 10 million players, boasts updated graphics, advanced editing tools as well as the beloved TrackMania gameplay.
Little information was released with regards to ShootMania and QuestMania however Ubisoft confirmed that they would both be heavily user-centric and revolve around the same editing tools seen in TrackMania. ShootMania will be a first-person-shooter based take on the Mania universe while QuestMania will revolve around the role-playing-game genre.
Ubisoft also confirmed PC betas for both TrackMania 2 (Q4 2010) and ShootMania (Q1 2011). No release date was confirmed for ManiaPlanet or QuestMania. Stay tuned for all the latest from E3 2010.
