I have heard some people say that this anime adaptation is literally cooked. But I was thinking, what is the problem in this particular situation ? I looked at ratings of this studio anime adaptations and It looked really bad. Here is the question: Is the reason why the ratings for this studio's anime adaptations are so low because of the animation? The pacing? The original work being already bad? A combination of all three, or another reason? |

The original work is considered a genuinely good story and read but what people don't like about this adaptation is because they've waited years for it and it's been handed to a studio that doesnt have an excellent track record. Imagine if Demon slayer was done by Studio deen, I guess that's a suitable analogy. I haven't read it so I'm open to enjoying the anime though. |

The thing is, it's not like this studio produced bad animation, it's just extremely mid. TBATE was considered best when it comes to writing, some even think it's better than mushoku tensei. So people expect the same treatment since even something like solo leveling could get amazing animation despite the mid story telling. Fans are just sad since from the trailer, it does look like those typical mid isekai shows. |

@Biisoo As someone who has read the manhwa I suggest you read it, I know it's hard to predict how bad the adaptation will be but in any case the art in the original is so good that it would be better to read it first, of course at the beginning of the story the art is worse so it doesn't matter whether you watch or read it, but if there is a sequel and the animation is worse than the original I would advise you to read the original work first. I'm not sure how well Arthur (the main character) will be voice acted, based on the trailer it seems that they will keep his adult inner voice (like Rudeus from Mushoku) which seems like a terrible decision to me, (personally) I always imagine Arthur with one voice and I don't think he will fit as well as Rudeus because in TBATE (abbreviation for the name) the comparison between past and present is different. What I am going to say now is not a spoiler as information about what is happening in the story, but only a way of telling the story and details that can be seen already in the first episode/chupter. Actually, the way the story is told is a spoiler since it stays like that for a while and also applies to after the first chupter. Read at your own risk! First let me inform you in case you don't know TBATE is originally a web novel that was adapted into a manhwa and as far as I heard the anime will maybe insert something from the novel that was not shown well in the manwa but that's all unknown to me since I haven't read the novel. In the first chapter (literally the first few pages) we were given very little information about Arthur as a king and what we saw was literally seen from the first person, we didn't even have the opportunity to directly observe his face from the past life so that Arthur as a small child was a cornerstone for us readers, which I believe that others also formed his voice in his head based on his child version and that voice developed as Arthur aged (but of course this is only my theory/opinion that could be completely incorrect). The first trailer clearly shows us that they plan to show his face as a king and some other things that are not shown in the manwa, since I haven't read the novel, I don't know if it's like that in the novel or if the author changes it on the spot or the producers pull it out of their ass, but I personally don't like it. Of course there will be times when Arthur will think about his past life but he won't go back through heartbreaking taumatic flashbacks all the time like Rudeus so I don't see the purpose of that older voice (of course that's my personal opinion, someone else's may be different). I don't want to spoil it any further, so I'll just say that the way of comparing their past lives is different compared to Mushoku. As a reader, I think that this adaptation will be bad not only because of the not so good animation, but also in other areas of the production, especially the voice acting (maybe I'm a little subjective). Because of the language and format of the manwa and the complexity of the Japanese language and the limited quality of the animation I feel like they have to put an elephant through a glass shop. For readers, the quality of the animation may be negligible in the beginning, since the art in the original is a bit sloppy at the beginning, but as the anime continues (IF it continues, or if the season covers a larger part of the story), the difference in quality will probably be visible. I hope that Turtleme (the author) has watched a lot of anime in the sub because on the contrary, the decisions about conveying meaning, social positions, ways of addressing... are in the hands of a producer (even if it's a pro, he couldn't have any great experience since the cases when entire stories are translated or rather converted from English to Japanese are very rare, the manhwas are usually in Korean and in the case of some games in English, they have more artistic freedom, since it is a game adaptation, there is usually more room for changing the story). I'm not a big expert in this industry and everything I mentioned could be totally unnecessary concern, it's just my opinion. I know it's not the topic of the discussion, but I'll write in case someone hasn't noticed, the name of the anime "Saikyou no Ousama, Nidome no Jinsei wa Nani wo Suru?” (What will the most powerful king do in his second life?) is completely different from the original "The beginning after the end", I know that it is difficult to create a title in Japanese (if it is even necessary, there are a lot of anime with titles in English that are a little louder and shorter, but it's better to be longer something bad) but it sounds very stupid to me (this may just be my opinion), as if it is some generic isekai. I don't know about the web novel, but in the manhwa it was never mentioned that Arthur was the "strongest king". Sorry for the length of the comment |

All i hear are animation complaints and that it's average, if that's all and they adapt the story itself fine (as I heard the novel is amazing), then I guess everything should be fine, helck had average animation, but I loved it because of the story, there was also the fire hunter and such, if they adapt the story just fine, the average animation is not gonna be a problem |

mid animation isn't really a turn off for me. My problems with many anime adaptations lie with bad pacing, skipping content, bad voice acting. If this adaptation can nail these 3, then it's a good adaptation in my book. It's subjective though. Many ppl will be on the lookout for the animations mostly as that's really the main selling point of an animated film. |

Now that you mention it, I remember Viral hit. Heck, even Lookism wasn't that great I think, It was just a one and done kinda show mainly as an advertisement for the source material. I guess it makes sense they do the same approach with TBATE, to sell the webtoon. |

I would like a more specific critique if possible. I don't think that animation = score, I don't really care about score (if you literally mean score), animation is just one of the potential problems of this adaptation, if everything else is good, animation would be negligible, but I doubt it will be like that. |

Sorry for the length of the comment
@vesamija8 The novel itself doesn't really say much of anything about Arthur's voice, but the audiobook does it in the way you're describing it - it becomes deeper and less childish as time progresses. The novel doesn't say anything about whether we get to see his face in the beginning from what I remember. IMO that's a minor point. It doesn't really change much, other than us getting slightly more information about his past life than we have in the manhwa. Minor novel spoilers: Some of the information in your spoiler is a little outdated from a novel-listener perspective. Arthur does end up struggling with his past life quite a bit later on in the story, and there are several flashbacks to his time on Earth as king Gray. So I think showing his past life in the beginning of the anime is fine - maybe this is a personal pet peeve, but I think isekais should show more of the MC's past life. I 100% agree that sloppy animation in later arcs could ruin the whole thing. There's some scenes that would make my heart weep if they were made into powerpoints or CGI. But that's only if the anime even gets to that point... It might take years for them to get to the post-university arc, and that's only if they decide to do multiple seasons. Unless they rush it and it turns out bad anyway. It's pretty stupid that they changed the title even though "The Beginning After the End" already goes so hard, but yeah - Gray was considered the strongest king in the novel. He was the strongest king with the weakest ki center (which, ironically, could be the title of an isekai all on its own). But I'm pretty hopeful for it. Even if the animation ends up being trashy, I'm surprised it's even getting an anime adaptation in the first place. |

I probably will in the future, by the way how much cut content is there?
@vesamija8 Not sure about the cut content, because I haven’t actually read anything in the novel before the part where Arthur trains in Epheotus, but it was a very worthwhile read. I’ve laid it off for a bit now because it’s still releasing but I’ll return when it’s finished. I’m at chapter 447. |
