Does the show or source material explain how MC manages to order for example swords, bows crossbows? These all turn out to function like pretty deadly sharpened weapons. Aren't for example blades longer than 15 cm illegal under Jutoho.

yup, owning a crossbow is illegal in Japan, unless you have permission to do so. And even with a permit, you can only use it in limited activities and locations.
