I can 100% confirm the dub absolutely butchered key character moments. The filler villains were leagues more interesting. I loved the final Egypt arc with Solomons backstory. The rewatch made it feel like a new series.

I highly suggest rewatching it subbed if you are a dub only watcher. Anyone else see both? What do you think?

I’ve watched both as well. Grew up with the dubbed and decided to watch it in its original subbed. It’s wild what’s removed from the dubbed. I never realized how creepy the big five are especially in the duel scene with Anzu.

Also the date with Anzu and Yami are totally different too!

Personally, I like season 0 the best because it more aligns with the manga, is way darker, and Yami sounds more how a boy in high school would sound to me? Not that the VA are bad in the others, but it’s more fitting as an alter ego.

I plan to watch subbed, but the laziness and the idealisation I have for the dubbed version is so strong, I am filled with nostalgia every time I hear Yugi and Kaiba voice.

I loathe the dub even though I watched it first, because back in my day most people didn't have access to the sub. The dub is awful idc how much nostalgic fans ride it. So many important things got altered or cut and the dub dialogue sounded like it came from an abridged series at least 20% of the time.

I was 16 years old when I realized how heavily censored Yu-Gi-Oh was. I was even more shocked when I realized that it was set in Japan instead of America. It even had entirely different music. It was the year 2016. I was 13 when I discovered that it was based on a manga, then it took me 3 years to finally learn about it in full detail. It was the same year I discovered there was a season 0, which aired in the late 90s. Just like the manga, it took me 3 years to learn about it in full detail and it was a loose adaptation of the manga. Last year, I decided to do a Yu-Gi-Oh marathon beginning with Season 0, then the movie, then Duel Monsters, then GX and finished it with 5Ds. I completely ignored the other Yu-Gi-Oh series because they had no connection to the previous series and that they weren't as good. I had finally read the manga in the middle of Summer and it was worth it. Now, I am patiently waiting for the series to get the Brotherhood treatment so we can all see Kazuki Takahashi's vision brought to life.
