Is there a lot more ecchi in the beginning on purpose?

Hi,

im pretty new to other manga and anime than shounen stuff. So this may be old news.

But when i started to watch the anime (im now reading the manga), directly in the beginning there were a lot of ecchi scenes and near rape scenes and so on.

After that stuff like that really cooled down, and now im at manga 6 i think, there is A LOT less of those scenes. Which I really liked btw, because im watching it for the story and not for hot lesbian scenes).

Is that done on purpose to bait people into the manga/anime who are just there for hot lesbian scenes, so they may stay for the story later on?

I saw that in some other shows too for example in mieruko chan. in the first two epispodes there are constant "ecchi" tropes, like those shots from the ground, girls being falling down into lewd positions and so on. and later on there is a lot less from that.

Do you think its done in citrus on purpose too?

I really think the hate this manga/show gets comes from the first episodes, because it really becomes a good romance without constant ecchi tropes after that.

That's possible.

But at the same time, Mangas are published chapter per chapter, with the Author not planning much in advance, and the publisher may decide to axe the publication at any time if the interest and sales numbers of a set of chapters are not good enough. Lesbian scenes may attract some readers at first, but at the end of the day, this interest won't last long, and they'll stick with a long running Manga for the story more than anything else.

So i believe the Author just changed her focus after a few chapters to have more chance of success, in the sense that she didn't think much at first, but then realized that she was in need of something more to have a series, especially as that was her own first serialized publication, with everything prior (and after) being one-shots, where there is no need to keep the interest of the readers. Looking if there is some interviews of her and her work could give more answers, tho.
