2026 is possible because the same team at A-1 that did 86 recently finished Part 2 of Nier automata. They could already be working on a second season for 86, we don't know. Maybe they're doing another project instead though.

Since nothing has been announced, it's possible it could come out at any time. It usually takes 6 months to a year for a show to air once it's announced. Just wait till you hear something official before assuming anything.

Actually, it might be. Because some sources say that 86 will not come before 2026, and the movie will come in 2026. Some sources even say that the production team is ready (I'm dealing with anime news and I see some sources long before). March 22-23 will be the Anime Festival "Anime Japan 2025". It is a festival where news about many different anime will be given. Maybe news about 86 s2 can be given at that festival. So according to rumors, A-1 Pictures will make 5 seasons + movies for Solo Leveling, Kaguya sama S4, Makeine s2, 6 short movies for Lycoris Recoil. In addition to these, there may also be 86 s2. So most of what I said is rumor and not 100% accurate. So for 86 s2 and other anime, we need to wait until the official announcement is made.

2026 will probably be the year of last 86's volume according to publishing pace and the number of volume Asato Asato says they are planning 86 to finish in.

So if not 2026 it will probably never come out.

A couple of years ago I thought maybe Bandai would have taken over production since they have some involvement with the show so when A-1 started announcing a very packed slate for the next several years. However I’m guessing the model kits didn’t sell that well so Bandai must not have seen any value in going alone.

Saga of Tanya the Evil s2 was announced I think probably around 2021... it has been 4 years. Tho compared to this, that might be a little controversial to release depending on its content but nonetheless, I hate some of the studios. If only every studio was like Mappa that would pump out animes routinely, perhaps life wouldn't be this miserable
