As expected, there are close to none gundam anime that aren't standalone and even those who are can somewhat be enjoyed without watching everything (the only ones that I feel is 100% not able to be appreciated by someone who watched nothing are zeta, zz, cca, Hathaway and the seed sequels and even then you could watch zeta without the original, just not recommended)
I hear only good stuff and the design is intriguing so I'm excitef

@Guilmon1 It's khara, their Shin Japan Heroes Universe is all like this; Shin Ultraman is a reboot that contains references unused/draft ideas for the 1966 series and Shin Kamen Rider draws ideas from the Ishinomori manga

Gundam shows are a spectrum; on one end, there's G Gundam, a super robot show with the Gundam name, then G-Witch and 00 which have easter eggs like the Haros, in between there's SEED which reuses UC suit designs and names, then there's the likes of this, GQuuuuuuX, The Origin and Thunderbolt which are alt-UC and finally there's the UC shows that are in continuity with each other.

Saw this over the weekend, and basically agree with the review. It's not a Tomino UC series, but it also doesn't have 100% the same feeling as other khara works (or Anno directed series) for me.

Clearly they want to make it more sparkling and fashionable for the young generation, while having enough Gundam nerds on staff to make it true to the UC setting.

Meanwhile the G-Gundam inspired clan battles make sure the series doesn't become too much of a melodrama and stays focused on cool action and CG mobile suits. I wonder if the rest of the series will be more space opera/slice of life, or more action compared to the first 4 eps?

For me, the way the fight scenes and the techno soundtrack were choreographed together was the highlight. Apart from the quality of the soundtrack, the way they framed the attacks and explosions and everything was basically just right for conveying the feeling of the setting as basically being classic UC with a younger, more psychedelic twist to it, with a little bit of savage Eva DNA mixed in for good measure. Anyway, I'm definitely more interested in the full series now than when I saw the trailer.

This is a more meta review on the development of a franchise at the moment than a review on a new show as such, LMAO. But no matter how I was biased against ANN, I do not want to fall into the trap of the prologue again. Let's see what the show itself will be.

@sunknell @Fortress_Maximus It will be symbolic if this new attempt to sell the Gundam to the young generation works, since, unlike G-witch, they, on the contrary, try to maintain the spirit of the original franchise.
