Hello,
Let's start with situation room: Girls Band Cry S1 is long over, the two recap movies are still in future and will have little new material, smartphone game is nebulous and real-life TogeToge band can only have so many concerts - while fans are very hungry for any new content all over Asia. GBC season 2 cannot be created quickly and affordably, due to how involved the production of high quality 3D-CGI animation becomes. A season 0 (i.e. prequel), even if created in relatively affordable 2D hand-drawn method, as seen during the beginning of S1E8, would still need lots of new scriptwriting and Jukki Hanada is tied down with existing commitments.
One alternative would be to create GBC S2 in "Endless Eight" way. That is, reuse the existing S1 scriptbook verbatim and 100% of the recorded audio. Re-use the existing CGI character models and dresses 100% as well. Have each S2 episode made by a new director, with new camera angles and lighting preferences and other artsy, stylistic choices.
Such trick is possible, because GBC visuals were created in AutoDesk Maya software. Thus, once the models are created and motion-capture data have been inserted into the system, the characters can be manipulated liberally, including movement, poses, facial expressions, etc. The camera and spotlights can also fly around them in 360 degrees at will, as demonstrated during the "GBC: How it's Made" show which recently aired on Abema TV.
All that hard work has already been done for producing S1 and the whole virtual world built for GBC now lies dormant on disk drives at Toei. Their servers just need booting up and an S2 which goes exactly as S1, but looks quite different could be created in relatively short time and on limited expenses. There is no need to re-record any dialogue, OST or songs or obtain new backgrounds. That means a magnitude less work to do, compared with an S2 built from the ground up.
However, the original "Endless Eight" realization gained a heinous reputation among Haruhi Suzumiya fans, as Kadokawa ordered it for ulterior profit motives, without regards to the audience's bewilderment. Not sure if GBC fans would accept a similar trick, even if done for their benefit and genuinely in their service? |
