I watched Fate/Stay Night and I'm in episode 8 of UBW. I've looked at the visual novel and I was wondering why are there 2 versions with extremely similar plots.

Fate/stay night is separated into three routes: Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heavens Feel. All three start mostly the same to a certain point, but change into a completely different story each time. Just think of it as it's multiple ways the same story could go if different decisions were made.

I think UBW has the best start too in terms of explaining things and setting it up. My only real complaint is I wish there was a better emphasis on where things branch.

To explain it to a new gen, think back to undertale and how it has a few different paths. That’s the three paths that fate takes

yeah that's what I was wondering cause I saw something that said that rin was the love interest orr something but the only difference was the witch lady being more important

the path of ubw diverges from the stay night path in the second season of ubw

Fate/ Stay Night 2006 = sabers route

Fate/ UBW = Rins route

Fate/ Heavens Feel = Sakura’s route

The trilogy starts off the same way for the most part with the prologue ending after Shirou summons Saber, after that part is when stuff starts to change. If I remember Heavens Feel and 2006 adaptations do a quick summary of the prologue, and UBW shows the entire prologue.

The trilogy looks the same for the most part but does end up being different. Another thing is if I remember Studio Deen for Stay Night 2006 combined parts of the different routes.

I personally agree with the budget thing blue lock should have gotten it but if it was a bad story it wouldn't be populaar

Nah, I wouldn't like it. I dont like repetition of events, scenes etc.

Thats why I also dislike Steins Gate or ReZero. Basically, time travel is also not my taste, because of stupid MC's they have.

If you want to know where the two stories diverge, it's in Saber and Archer's first encounter. In the Fate (Saber) route, Saber attacks Archer, causing him to be in recovery mode at the beginning, in the UBW (Rin) route, Shirou uses a command spell to stop Saber the moment he sees Rin... this causes him to be present in the Vs Berserker in front of the Church and other subsequent changes.

The beginnings of the two routes may seem somewhat similar, but when you think about it, the only fight with the same servants in both is Assassin Vs Saber. And some characters, like Rider and Caster, are much more important in one than the other. (Rider does nothing in UBW, and Caster does nothing (in the VN version) of the Fate Route.

Deen's FSN added in elements from the other routes into its adaptation, so you'll see some similarities taken from UBW that weren't originally in the first route of the VN.
