Aaaand dropped . I hate when mangakas suddenly decide to add forced drama to attract viewers to a simple romcom just because they are not competent enough to find an another way to attract the viewers. Like ......if he wanted to have this kind of thing in his doujinshi , do it since chapter 1-3 not after 21 chapters. Only in NTR hentai manga this kind of thing works sometimes. 3/10

The author posted on the Platform Formerly Known As Twitter about the Light chapter being over and now we're moving to the Dark chapter of the story. Apparently it has ALWAYS been the author's intent to deliver story this from multiple points of view. We finished the Hikari's "Light" chapters (hikari means light) and now we're moving into Ayami's "Dark" chapters (yami means darkness). I'm assuming after this we'll see Yuu "Twilight" chapters (yuu means evening), perhaps followed by a set of omniscient third-party of chapters to wrap it up. All three of these characters are likely to be Unreliable Narrators.

It's sad but a little funny to see commenters going ape-sh*t over on MangaDex with fairly intense arguing and vote bombing because the author is delivering what they had planned to deliver instead of what the commenters had storyboarded in their own heads. If these characters ARE unreliable narrators and their stories differ the commenters will complain that the author "can't keep their story straight" or that they're retconning.

Note that there is NO SYNOPSIS for this manga that promises one thing and is not being followed. THAT would be an actual Bait and Switch.

This initial Fluffy Childhood Romcom story (that people are complaining has been "ruined") likely is only Hikari's rose-colored fantasy view of her relationship with her childhood friend. There's been nothing that Yuu has said to make it seem like he's anything more than a friend who's been trying to "catch up" with her. He as much as said that in what Hikari thought was going to be a confession back in Chapter 17. He has an inferiority complex with her, not romantic attraction.

Hol up wtf just happened? Damn what? Top 10 anime betrayals.

I stopped reading for a while to save up some chapters but then I came back after seeing this image

So I came back to see what happened but I didn't expect this to happen. So somehow her best friend and childhood friend were in a relationship before and she didn't know? Now they're kissing in the classroom wtf?

What funny here is your mindset . People are not angry that the author wanted to be dark , the people are angry because the mangaka's thoughts are all over the place and the shift to dark story is sudden and abrupt . Nothing wrong with dark stories but the writer should have done better better job with the transition. It's sad that there are people like you you defend such cheap tactics to attract the attention of viewers .

@wallsg Also take a look at the people's reaction on X from Japan. The whole explanation the mangaka gave was just a damage control by his editor or publisher

Funnily enough, I know this author's works with similar tones, but didn't look at who the author was until this chapter.

Same scenario with Saekano (Eriri vs Megumi)
And White Album 2 (Setsuna vs Touma). Both by the same person.

I'm thinking the author probably confessed to their IRL friend and lost, and twists the knife on the childhood friend love interest in their stories.
