I was watching Episode 2, and they went to Okinawa with a plane.

Are airplane school trips something normal in Japan? Pardon me if my question sounds dumb or something, because there was an Indonesian school that did this too with a smaller airplane (trip from a province to another one in the same island), it went viral and made everyone surprised, asking where the budgets came from (they're from the student's money saved over 5 years).

I watched the anime, and the character's tones/reactions imply this is not something surprising, while it was something surprising in my country.

(Now that I mentioned budgets, I wonder where the budgets of the Okinawa trips (or irl Japanese school's plane trips) come from. Do schools fund it mostly/wholly?)

I guess so. It's not that weird where I come from and there really isn't another quick way to Okinawa.

Well I personally don’t know about Japan but some European countries also fly to islands so I think it just depends on the school to be honest.
My class flew to Malta in the tenth grade and in country flights are not that expensive so it is probably cheaper and faster than we assume it to be.
Also this takes place in 2011 so idk maybe the Inflation hasn’t hit them yet πŸ™ˆ

Its so common to see in anime because it's essentially a domestic tourism done right by the Japanese government, The schools get funds for the travel, while the students spend their money in the destination.

There is a reason why its always Okinawa or Kyoto, all Japanese locations that supports local tourism.

If you want to go to Okinawa, you must take a plane. There's also a ferry service from Kagoshima which is located in the southern part of Kyushu which takes about 24 hours to reach Okinawa from Kagoshima. And that's from the southern tip of Kyushu, you don't need to think about if you ride a ferry from either Tokyo or Osaka, how long it will be.

And, yes! They, but not every school, really fly for their school trip in real life. I took this photo from many years ago at Haneda Airport.

Do you have any clue why they don't carry any luggages with them? I mean where do they store their clothes or is it common to dress in your school uniform the entire trip?

I’m in the UK, my daughter went on a school trip to Japan when she was 15. Pretty rare though, it didn’t happen every year. It was a 2 stage trip too, with a flight from Sapporo to Tokyo after the 1st week. We parents only had to pay a few hundred pounds towards the cost!

@Zimmu

This photo was taken at the boarding gate. So, all of their luggages were dropped at the check-in counter as checked luggage already.
For the Japanese high school student, their uniform is their formal attire. They need to wear it all the time during their school trip and they can also wear it during any kind of formal ceremony as well.
