"The Apothecary Diaries" manga artist Nekokurage has been sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for 3 years and a fine of 11 million yen (71,148 USD) for tax evasion.

To be clear it's a suspended sentence, which means she won't serve any jail time if she does not break any laws for three years. So unless Square Enix decides to stop collaborating with her I think she'll keep drawing the manga.

hope that that would be the case. Or else, it'd be ironic how the artist of Apothecary Diaries, a story all about smartly laying low/surviving in the political climate of ancient China, getting sentenced to prison in Japan

She’s got a suspended sentence so she’ll avoid jail time as long as she is on good behavior.

Apparently Square Enix said they won’t be canceling the series so I’m sure Nekokurage will continue drawing it, so long as she doesn’t cause any trouble. Best case scenario, anyways.

Well as a light novel reader, this doesn't affect me anyways, since I never waste my time reading manga adaptations of light novels....

@deg she IS rich though, the manga has been selling incredibly well since the anime came out, she seems to be a millionaire actually.
