quite the long chapter (assuming there was mistake in the numbering but im too lazy to fully check it out). life has been moving real fast for joe after that fight against carlos, no unfortunately he is a cripple but not that joe has mature greatly he bears the responsibility of all those he retired killed and crippled.

his winning streak only cementing this maturity and ultimately this loneliness. i think the most beautiful thing to come out of this chapter was the conversation joe has with noriko, where he said that all that will remain is white ash, i dont know why but that really stuck with me and even with that i can see as clear as day that joe is deffo going through some depression, is is used to the isolation and a strictness that comes with being a boxer.

it's as though its a dependancy. I'm actually in awe in how joe is being displayed here, what we have to remember from the first chapter joe has always been alone but dampei has been there as his father figure and boxing has been his solace so with everything else going on like money, tv rights and all that mumbo jumbo, its the hitting that makes joe joe. when joe and youko were having that little date, he was so uninterested in everything. this is the loneliness that the old dampei was ranting about backed up with noriko's analysis of joe being lonely i feel like something ominous is happening but all the while this was a masterful display of penship.
