Muraragi received some violent beatdowns in the series. I will just focus on 3 of those.

1. Suruga mauling Araragi in Bakemonogatari before making up

2. Karen handing one-sided violence over to her brother in Nisemonogatari

3. Kagenui annihilating Araragi at the end of the same season.

How many of these were exaggerations by the studio, and how much?

In most cases the LN is from Araragi's POV, so if it's exaggerated, then it's because of Araragi and how he explained or felt about it.
What I can remember from the Suruga fight, it is pretty accurate.

i had a different question. how's family season going? has any translated parts even released?

@SIimyBread Only one novel released from Family Season, Ikusamonogatari ( It already has a translation), it's pretty good imo. We already know that the next one will be called Tsugimonogatari, no release date yet.

well from what I've read so far (I started reading the novels recently and just finished volume 1 of nise)

1. against suruga in the novel the fight was actually longer since araragi actually fought back, though he was still getting his ass beat

2. if anything araragi was exaggerating himself, he kept saying how if he wasn't a "vampire" he would have died many times in the fight, the whole time araragi wasn't able to fight back and he was just straight up getting his ass beat so I'd say shaft was the one to tone it down with how crazy araragi was describing the one sided ass whooping
