I hadn’t thought about AOST in a while and this page on MAL seems to be the last remaining pressence of this site, so I wanted to take a minute to honor how important this site was in life.

I came across AOST in highschool, maybe around 2006? I came looking for .//hacksign music, but I stayed for the community. The mods were surprisingly patient with my spammy nature and I was happy to become part of the community. During that time in my life I had no friends, I had a scary traumatic home life, and I was dealing with so much depression and anxiety from loneliness and fear of what I would do with my adulthood. But AOST was always a safe place to escape that, talk about my troubles, or get advice. I barely knew how to use the internet at that point and I ran across a few very patient souls who guided me.

As the years went by I became a mod, and those were weird but fun times. Honestly it was just a different time to be on the internet- our community always had the occasional trolls and spammers, but the world them wasn’t like it is today. I’m proud remembering our community was mostly good folks.

I remember the Mafia games, the signature contests, the weird JavaScript games I played for points, the fun I had in IRC, the spam threads—- it all seemed like fun and games, but the fun I had there and the people I met helped me grow as a person, survive the bad stuff, and have more confidence in myself. I even met my Husband on AOST!

Perhaps I’m talking into the void, but I hope the other members of AOST have grown and found happiness in their lives. You people were the lifeblood of the site and I will always remember you all fondly!

I apologize for typos… but in the nature of my old self I’m leaving them.
I wish you all well!

It is a bit sad that these days the Internet is just like 3 websites and the magic can not be recreated like it was on AOST and generally forum times. But without AOST I wouldn't have met my wife either and next year will be our 10 year wedding anniversary. Can't believe I met the love of my life on an anime music forum xD.

I'm glad there are others who remember the site so fondly!

I'm so glad I got a notification on my email for this topic, could've easily missed it! I have such good memories of AOST!

I clearly remember your username, Bluesnow!! I'm so happy I'm reading a post by you once again! I missed the site a lot over the years. As you both say, the internet was a completely different place back then. Nothing could replace AOST really.

I was kinda young when I joined and honestly, it was amazing. The content and the community were mindblowing to me. I did not have much of a presence in the forums but I don't think I'll ever forget you were the first to reply to my introduction post as a new member, welcoming me as a fellow Rurouni Kenshin fan. I was maybe 13 years old so, idk it might've become a core internet memory ahahaha.

I will also remember AOST very fondly. I always wondered if AOST members thought about the site so many years later.
I hope that others will find their way to this topic as well :)
