That's not even up to debate, because ending is objectively happy with miracle literally happening.
Everyone who thinks otherwise simply did not paid attention.

I literally said it is objectively happy and there is no case to he made that it wasn't.

@neel_senpai No, she won't. If Nagisa survived, there is no reason why Ushio wouldn't

It's technically a happy ending but it happens so fast that it doesn't really feel like it. Not enough time to breath after the plethora of sad stuff before it. Would've loved an extra episode to actually see everyone be together (or maybe even just 5 minutes)

It’s both, though the ending specifically is happy.

I think the end of Clannad: After Story is a sad one.
*Spoilers below*

The part where everyone is seemingly happy and alive and doing well is a dream the dad has as he's dying. It's a legitimate psychological phenomenon (the whole life flashing before your eyes thing, but in his case it's all rewritten). There was no hope left, both he and his daughter didn't make it, so his mind conjured up something he could bear in his final moments instead, or showed us what he pictured as "heaven" or the "afterlife".
Still a very touching story, and one of my all-time favourites, but definitely a sad ending.

Consider what was shown at the end really happened and wasn't just some dream, then it's a happy ending.

However, regardless if it was real or not, I didn't feel happy at the end, so I vote sad.

I personally think it can be both, depending on you :
1. Sad : The ending upto the part where they both die is reality and all other things that happened after that are his imagination. OR
2. Happy : The ending as it happens.

I personally lean more towards the happy one.

It's both. The ending is happy but the story before then is sad.

Kinda weird to explain this but according to the visual novel it has a bad ending and true ending. The anime adaptation did both endings and in the visual novel the true ending isn't really necessary to complete, unless u want to beat the same 100% where u have to do that, the baseball tournament, and Sunohara’s route (and no its not canon, fuck this route was disturbing to play)

The ending of Clannad: After Story is happy and beautiful, but the moments that lead up to that are truly heart-wrenching. The happy moment at the end is so happy because of what we know happens right before it.

During a certain scene before the very end I cried so hard I woke up my roommate lol

That’s literally incorrect, you have watched the show with a blindfold on, you have clearly not read the visual novel, and missed the whole point of clannad in general. Pathetic.

Again, watch the show again while actually looking at the screen and paying attention to clannad’s themes and messages. If you even think that the sad option is in the conversation you have not payed attention, you have not read the visual novel, you have not understood the final say, you have not chewed this show before you swallowed.

Objectively happy, anybody who says otherwise are completely incorrect, didn’t pay attention to the story, to the themes and to the heart of this mastercraft. Clannad ending deniers are absolutely the worst of the worst. Chew your shows before you swallow everyone.

clannad is a visual novel adaptation which has several endings. So i think the ending is kinda up to you since last episodes all were like an end point which you can consider as an ending itself . I personally choose the sad ending i think it was more realistic and suitable for the flow of the story even tho i cried so hard lol

I would agree objectively happy. What a rough ride, literally just finished my first ever watch.

I would say this is a masterful way of concluding a story. Takes you down on an extremely painful journey you'll never forget. But a miracle does happen. It really felt miraculous too - rather than just 'lol reset button go brrr'.

I am floored 10/10 legendary immortal anime

That’s definitely not what happened since throughout the show they explain the orbs of happiness as a miracle granter if you collect enough which happens to nagisas dad in a flashback

After Story doesn't really feel like it has an ending.
