Last episodes were pretty much a pain in terms of quality, so, do you hope that with this amount of delay (in terms of episodes) the quality is, at least, going to be acceptable? Like, they got more time to work on the episodes, right? This should mean the quality should get better...
Although, I wonder if the last two episodes are even going to be aired at all.
I'm disappointed because this is such a good show... But the sudden drop in quality just makes it unwatchable.

The production seems really troubled, I wouldn’t expect any drastic changes.

The delay probably gave them just enough time to get back on track for the episodes that were supposed to air in that time, I doubt it gave them much, if any extra time for future episodes.

Did you hear me?
I said I'm gonna do my best!!

In terms of the issue, I personally can’t really recognize it. I know its getting delayed etc but as a reader of the manga i quite like this adaptation. Also no this isn’t bait I’m just genuinely asking what the issues are because I can’t personally tell

I'm gonna tell you the biggest issues in my opinion: The PowerPoint-esque transitions between scenes and characters and objects disappearing for no reason. But I'm pretty sure people noticed more issues than that

Thank you for telling me!! Yeah I’ve noticed that between transitioning there wasn’t usually a lot done, but i guess i might’ve gotten used to that from the amount of meh animated shows I’ve watched over the years (mainly within the isekai/fantasy genre)

You're welcome! I don't hate this anime, but as I said before, I got disappointed because of that. Probably because the first episodes gave me high expectations.

For me, the animation is decent enough. I mostly care about the story and characters anyway.

When it first happened, I actually liked it as more of an artistic direction decision and I still do for the most part

Until they used that to cut off like 2 performances short (I'm still dissapointed that they talk over some performances and THEN cut them short, you can't even enjoy the full song or atleast the 90 second version of it but instead get way less with the characters talking over it)

But yea, troubled production is putting it lightly, I personally think it's more really poor scheduling. Honestly with these kinds of problems, the production is more to blame but the management side of the studio itself can also be to blame.

It could be that the actual production cycle of the anime was too short (things haven't been the same since JJK 0's production was finished in a 4 month production cycle). It could also be the studio, Yokohama Animation Laboratory, taking too much projects at once (they have 2 different anime series in a single season, with a staff headcount of only 50) so freelancing it to other studios was inevitable which is why we see the quality drop from around episode 4 I think?

The most notable one was episode 8 or so with the dissapearing mic, but there's also only so many you can do with so little people and so little time. Honestly I wouldn't blame the animators and the like at all because of how overworked they are.

Honestly I would've liked it if they delayed the whole anime for either 1 or 2 seasons, or started delaying the episodes past ep 3 or so to give them more time to work on it. Sure, economically speaking it's gonna cost them a lot because of tv slots. But with a rushed production what did you actually expect?

Sorry for the long reply
TL;DR I'm blaming the production committee and they should've delayed much earlier

I'm curious, what happens when an anime gets delayed so much it gets out of the TV slots? Does it mean economical losses for the animation studio?

@Kayroad The animation studio doesn't pay for time slots, the production committee does. In that case, they usually want to avoid delays, not only because it will obviously cost additionally to get new slots, but actually finding them can be a hassle since it needs to be planned in advance.

And since most anime are made with special collaborations in mind, it means having to reorganize those things too.

Maybe if it got a Bluray release but even then maybe not. I dont think ive ever seen a show make a huge leap in quality in a good direction before. For me I dont see anything that particularly bothers me so it is okay.

Yea there's a lot that goes into airing an anime and such

It's very understandable that most people wouldn't know the intricacies of the industry like this 👍

Usually for bd/dvd releases, there aren't any major changes to direction, pacing and the like

Usually it's "just" the animation quality among other things like "ghosting" in flashy action shonen scenes and the like

I've heard some shows might get an extra 1~3 minutes for an episode (Violet Evergarden), and a lot of Shaft studio's anime get major upgrades from the tv release (most notably bakemonogatari, it's why their bd/dvd sales are still one of the highest due to the tv release being essentially unfinished)

But it really depends on the studio I think

@ReXiRa
They usually if anything redraw off model characters and fix animation and colouring errors. The "ghosting" if it is what i think you mean is not an animation error it is an anti photosensitive seizure technique.

Yea "ghosting" is necessary for tv releases unless we want a repeat of the pokémon pilot episode

Yea the vast majority are those off-model characters being redrawn to adhere more closely to the concept arts and the like

I can't remember the name but there was that one anime where the tv release and bd/dvd release was so vastly different including some of the designs/appearances but they're in the vast minoritu. I thought it might've been a shaft anime but I honestly don't remember and honestly not really relevant to the main topic of discussion (sorry for derailing)

don't you mean the porygon episode?

I mean, the pilot episode did revolve around porygon

The Red Blue flashing that triggered seizures was pikachu's fault tho but yes, we're referring to the same thing

Posting this here as well since someone already mentioned it in the episode 10 thread already, but production on episode 11 and 12 is currently delayed indefinitely.
