I want something to read before going to the gym, this seems like a good fit, but with so many versions, I'm kinda confused. Where to get started and what to expect? Is there a set order, can I skip some etc.

I read this one by itself. It isn’t hard to understand. They refer to stuff that happened in the first series but it isn’t crucial to the plot. It still enjoyable without that context. Theres also some brief summaries about the first series on the character pages before the actual manga pages.

@MalaiseTonic With there being so many sequels, is it really neccesary for me to read all of them? (Like, does the story follow an actual coherent plot with arcs that flow into the next or is this episodic with different individual parts within the manga that I can consume on it's own) I just want something to read on the whim

It has a plot but it’s not complicated. The only small challenge is just learning all the characters involved. It’s mostly a loose plot to have the fight matchups make sense. You can read it randomly. It has some minor arcs to it but nothing major advanced to understand like if you were reading One Piece or something. You could space it out and probably be fine since it has nice catchup summaries at the beginning and character pages.
