and to clarify, what i think about cid character is simply my own takes about it. and not something i consider a objective fact.
Analysis:
Cid kageno escapism & Disconnection from reality.
Cid is a escapist. but not necessarily due to some trauma or the like. but as his dialogue in episode 1 show, it's him simply not growing from childish dreams.
to Further explain cid escapism. i would like to use this scene.
in here it show cid as a child watching screens. the dialogue at the moment talk about cid not remembering when this dream of his, started. implying that this moment was where it started. as a child. then we get a look on what's on the screens. and we see scenes of cid himself, but as shadow. that child is cid inner and true self, a childish self that didn't grow from such dreams. which lead me to talk about his disconnection from reality. Cid see all the various identities he take as mare videogame/show characters he play/watch. something that highlighted by child cid watching scenes of himself as shadow. all the identities he took in the series even his 'true' identity as cid kagenou or his past life identity as minoru kagenou. are such characters infront of cid eyes.
because he is disconnected from all this identities he has trouble forming human relationship and having regular emotions. but as shown it's not impossible for him. multiple moments in the series has him caring for people or feeling such emotions. one of my favourites moments of such is again from the sequence in episode 1.
him feeling sentimental from others abandoning their childish dreams, could be equated to having your friends grow up from a game you like while you still keep playing it. it's a small irritating and bitter feeling. for me that moment made cid character feel incredibly real.
Cid new life.
cid in his new life he gave up on his dream of (truly) being the eminence in shadow. at first glance what I'm saying might not make sense cause isn't he living his ideal eminence life? if you would think that i will ask you to remember cid pov about what's happening. in his perspective there isn't truly a cult, there isn't any mind games nor does he have a truly loyal organisation follow him. it's all a facade, a game he is playing. yet he is sastified with that. the reason for that being is in his new life he has alpha and crew to play this 'game' with him. in episode 2.
alpha and crew leave him.
for him it's a similarity to what happened in his past life. that being the moment i showed earlier of how the people around him grew up from their dreams. the difference being that alpha and crew still were ready to 'play' with him. that made a huge impact on him. it's made him able to connect with people better by feeling less disconnected from reality. unlike his previous life where he was alone in that 'game'.
if you read all this yapping. then firstly, thank you for spending your time on this. and secondly, i would like you to put out your respective opinions of agreement and disagreement and your own takes about cid character.
