I realise someone asked something similar, but I'm aware there is Hanamaru, Katsugeki and also maybe multiple stage plays? I really want to appreciate this anime as much as possible so I'd like to watch things in the best order. I'm aware they're not chronological, but what do you think is the best way to get into this anime/fandom? Should I watch someone stream the game maybe? I'd appreciate your opinions!

I think starting with Hanamaru would be best! It’s a slice of life and you slowly get to know more characters and get used to the world.
Katsugeki instead is more action and story focused, so watch it after.

The stage play if you’re really interested, you can watch after this season since it’s an animated adaptation of one. If you like it you’ll probably also like the others.

I don’t think you really need to experience the game, it’s an online strategic card game where you can also interact with your swords, but most of the information is on the wiki so… if you don’t want to play it then don’t bother.

You do not have to watch or play anything to get into the anime because it will explain everything you need to know about the series in the show itself. Every other show, stage play, musical, game, etc. takes place in it’s own continuity based on the premise of the original game, and likely wouldn’t help you that much in having an understanding of the plot direction this series going to go. Even watching the stage play before watching the anime may not help you much, since while it makes references to the stage play, the anime is otherwise its own thing, also set in its own continuity so it can be enjoyed as a standalone work, like the previous two anime adaptations.

In shorter words, watching other things before Kai is optional, but if you want to understand the show better in a quick way, you can try exploring the Touken Ranbu wiki to get to know the world of Touken Ranbu and the characters.

I ended up asking this on the Touken Ranbu sub Reddit and got a lot of comprehensive replies, so if anyone else has the same question I'd recommend looking there: https://www.reddit.com/r/toukenranbu/s/WMjURqG9OJ
