Solo Leveling was not in the top 10 but still managed to get a sequel announcement. Also, there is no evidence or at least data to prove that Apothecary Diaries had 1/10th of the budget for Frieren, more likely based on assumptions, I presume. In Japan alone, it is the 4th popular anime right now (credits to the comment by u/nezeta from Reddit) Jujutsu Kaisen - 1.88M One Piece - 1.40M Spy X Family - 1.30M Frieren - 1.18M Apothecary Diaries - 1.15M Demon Slayer - 0.94M Detective Conan - 0.70M Pocket Monsters - 0.69M Oshi no Ko - 0.66M Gundam - 0.46M Kingdom - 0.36M Attack on Titan - 0.36M On the other hand, Frieren currently has 220 million views in Bilibili alone (not to mention that the views would continue to grow since China was delayed by 3 weeks in their release for Frieren). For comparison, Solo Leveling has 44.617 million views, JJK Season 2 has 2.61 million views (although it is understandably low since it doesn't include mainland China), and Spy Family has 14.388 million. |
