| Well this was definitely the best episode we've had in quite some time. For one thing it was Midori-centric, which is a rare treat. For another it started out as a weight-loss focused episode, which hits close to home with me currently. But of course, the big reason was...Turbo! I figured that's what this whole thing was leading towards even though I've yet to read the manga chapters for this. After all, I know he's there when Goku visits Penguin Village so I figured he'd hafta show up eventually. I was a bit surprised at how rushed the pregnancy was. Almost felt like a wasted opportunity, but then at least the birth itself will hafta wait another week. It's funny, all throughout the second half I was reminded of how much more novel an animated pregnancy must've been in 1984, but then I remembered The Flinstones had one over 20 years earlier than that! But I digress. I loved Senbei's ride around the village and everyone's reactions. I'm inclined to agree with all the observations. Would Toriyama ever confirm Senbei actually made love to his wife? Well...close enough, I guess. I also noticed the speeder he was driving in that sequence greatly resembled the ones used in the Endor forest chase sequence from Return of the Jedi released the previous year. I know Toriyama was a huge Star Wars fan so I doubt it's a coincidence. But yeah, fun episode, can't wait for next week. And speaking of... Next time: The blessed event...Turbo at last! |
