The official website of Hibike! Euphonium 3 (Sound! Euphonium 3) revealed four new cast members and a key visual on Saturday (pictured). The four characters are new first-year students joining the Kitauji High School Wind Ensemble. The third anime season will begin airing on April 7 at 5:00 p.m. on NHK-E.

Cast
Suzume Kamaya: Shiina Natsukawa (High School Fleet)
Yayoi Kamiishi: Ayane Matsuda (Tonikaku Kawaii: Joshikou-hen)
Kaho Hariya: Momoka Terasawa (Yuzuki-san Chi no Yonkyoudai.)
Sari Yoshii: Emiri Suyama (Mononogatari)

The third season is adapting Ayano Takeda's Hibike! Euphonium: Kitauji Suisougaku-bu, Ketsui no Saishuu Gakushou (The Kitauji Concert Band's Decisive Final Movement), the final two volumes in the main story.

Tatsuya Ishihara (Hibike! Euphonium) is returning to direct the anime at Kyoto Animation, with assistant director Taichi Ogawa (Hibike! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest-hen). Jukki Hanada (Sora yori mo Tooi Basho) is also returning to handle the series composition.

Character designer Shouko Ikeda (Hibike! Euphonium 2) and music composer Akito Matsuda (Edomae Elf) are also reprising their roles. Kazumi Ikeda (Musaigen no Phantom World) is joining Shouko Ikeda as a character designer, and is also credited as the chief animation director.

The first and second seasons aired in Spring 2015 and Fall 2016, each running for 13 episodes. The Kitauji Koukou Suisougaku-bu e Youkoso (Welcome to the Kitauji High School Concert Band) and Todoketai Melody (May the Melody Reach You!) compilation movies premiered in Japan in April 2016 and September 2017.

The Liz to Aoi Tori (Liz and the Blue Bird) side story movie opened in April 2018. The Chikai no Finale (Our Promise: A Brand New Day) sequel movie premiered on April 19, taking place during the second school year. Ensemble Contest-hen (Ensemble Contest Arc), the latest installment and prequel to the third season, screened in theaters on August 4 last year.

I understand that the metaphorical portrayal of the school orchestra cast as an all-female school was intentional and that KyoAni initially promoted this as an all-female show, but I still find it funny that none of the new characters are male.

@RobertBobert Don't Worry,KyoAni has a swim team and an archery club that's all male.

I'm gonna really miss Minami girls (Mizore, Nozomi, Yuko and Natsuki) after their graduation :(
That was really terrible poster ngl. Who thought fitting as many new faces as possible in one frame was a good idea lol. Kumiko in the middle should have been enough there.

But Kitauji High school isn't an all girl school though. It's just that the assemble cast consisting more girls with very few boys in there.

@VivaceRex agree with the poster. Previous one with Mayu going into different direction against Kitauji quartet is better in my opinion

@VivaceRex I know, that’s why I never said that they have a girls’ school, but said about the “metaphorical image”. This is a manifestation of the author's idea that school orchestras are primarily female spaces and that the friendships formed there are quite similar to Class S. Plus, KyoAni was clearly always intentional about selling this as an all-female franchise, something Yamada never really hid, although she didn't exactly say it literally.

This is the fallout from the last couple of films. Although the author conceived the story as “Kumiko’s journey through meeting various important people,” at some point the Kyoto team decided that the franchise must definitely focus on the entire ensemble.
