| This week, on a very special episode of Dr. Slump, Toriyama tackles the difficult and serious topics of gun violence and animal rights. You know it's a special episode when we get not one, but two insert songs! Gatchan seemed to get them more than any other character. Gori-chan the gorilla's story reminded me a bit of that very early episode with the bear Senbei turned into a cyborg. Same idea anyway. That ending though! Who knew Gori-chan would grow into King Kong? Or maybe I should say an Oozaru, roaring at the moon? ;) Next time: A behind the scenes q and a with Toriyama himself??? EDIT: As I write this edit I have the sad duty to report of Toriyama-sensei's passing earlier this month. As it will be close to another week before I watch the next episode I felt it worth noting here, though considering he's literally involved in next week's episode I'll no doubt mention it then as well. Sadness overwhelms me. Without Akira Toriyama I would in all likelihood not be an anime fan today. He was responsible for what I still consider to be the greatest manga of all time, and brought joy to me and countless others. He will continue to do so through the work he left behind. May he rest in peace. :( |
