Its something that i have been curious about for a while considering there is a lot of content in the light novel meanwhile the anime isn't very far behind the manga.
"We are all like fireworks: we climb, we shine and always go our separate ways and become further apart. But even when that time comes, let's not disappear like a firework and continue to shine.. forever."

I also seem to have the same question as you.
btu I would like to mention during S2p1 release time I saw it was following the LN but later it was updated to manga, why did mal change the Original Content to be manga not LN?

Do you mean why anime waits for manga?
Then the answer is, sales. The general rule "anime is just manga/LN advertisement". No point to have advertisements to be ahead of the actual product you are selling.

There are exceptions, for example manga doesn't sell well, so no one really cares. Or anime is extremely popular and can bring money on its own. And the new wave, anime wasn't an ad to begin with (eg Chainsaw)

Unfortunately manga for slime does well))

It has always been an LN. It was a web novel at first then LN then manga and then finally an anime.

No, his question is why the anime of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime was following the manga and not the LN, eventho the LN came first

The Author is supervising the Manga , so it can be considered as a "definitive" version of his story.
It also has better sales than the Light Novel , and it's even because of it that the story became popular to begin with.

In the end , they follow both , as there is some events which happens more like they were depicted in the Light Novel rather than in the Manga.
But you'll probably never find an official and clear answer.

That also happened with Season 1 and Season 2 Part 2.

The reason is that the original and official announcement mention it as an adaptation of the Light Novel.
But it was later revealed in the credits that it's officially an adaptation of the Manga...

MAL only follows what's said officially , so they update everytime.

The Light Novel is still ongoing tho.

The one who's already completed is the WebNovel , the amateur-ish and free draft the Author did all alone.
The publishing companies of the Manga/Light Novel wouldn't gain anything from it.

My mistake
So why would they do something like this? isn't following the LN the ideal choice? Because the LN is just the polishing of the WN and also sometimes manga adapted from LN also changes small things.

That's what OP asked with this thread.

Mhh , dunno.

Due to the difference in medias , it's very hard to adapt a (Light/Web/Visual/Regular) Novel into another format.
In a Novel , there is a lot of place for explanations/dialogues/details , but not in a media that rely on visuals. So when adapting it , there is always a lot that needs to be cut.
Maybe they are adapting from the Manga because it's simply easier for them , especially since it does a good job at choosing what to adapt or cut.

In any cases , adaptions from Novels are very rarely good , so it's definitely not the ideal choice.

For a lot of anime like this it doesn't follow either. The Webnovel originally completely diverged from the lightnovel, so the lightnovel was basically a reimagining of the story. Then the manga changes some things the author didn't like or just doesn't work visually or pacing wise and so does the anime. In this anime's case the manga was sometimes even behind where the anime was production wise, so they were kind of based on each other, while both adapting the light novels overall story
