With Yazawa being the next person to potentially quit choir because of parents' pressure, the choir practice's rehearsal time is severely being cut short, and with just one more month to go, Haruo just tries to make do without Kaito and make the best of what they can muster with the remainder.

In the end, the parents' pressure got to everyone involved, and apart from Haruo just blabbing his "valid" points, his solo singing is easily the worst of all, only salvageable thanks to the boys all coming together for an ensemble harmony. Oh well, the hard part of that is over, and the boys can finally focus on the Christmas Kanto competition.

What a turnaround.

It's still bad but I don't hate it.

I was actually so excited when they did the thing from the OP.

Some lessons in parenting, but presented in such a comedy of errors.... I think the episode tried to carry too much and as a result everything got a little less weight than it should have. Kaito being gone is barely mentioned, even though it's obviously at the core of this conundrum. Jin lost his KISS-makeup (which is great, he looks good without), but that doesn't even get half a comment throughout the entire episode - and HOLY HELL, he's built like a brick outhouse, isn't he? And the reminder that the oldest of these boys will only be starting highschool next year? Yeah, personally I totally forgot about that... Nofilter sensei not being able to carry a tune in a bucket to save his everyone's life is finally out in the open (that's why he is a conductor, isn't it, if you can't do a thing, just teach it xD)... but somehow it doesn't seem to have all that much of an effect on the big picture.

Sigh. This series continues to be weird (more a treasure trove of random dessert trivia than of anything related to singing), though it still isn't unlikeable.

So today in the office, with Old Hag, Maestro, and Reika; a parent has come to complain about her son coming home late from practice. It's Yazawa's mom, and Mrs Yazawa is pretty clearly- a Tiger Mom! And for the first time in this show- she's pretty, and even though she sounds annoying at first the little badger warms up to her right away. Hahaha- he gets it.
But then she leaves, and Old Hag (even she's starting to look oddly cute from some angles) has a plan- she asks Maestro to go get some Macaroons (WHAT IS IT with the obsession with macaroons in Japan? They're gross... all food coloring and they taste terrible. Who likes them?)
In next scene as Tenshi is talking to Yazawa (from a really weird angle), Maestro comes back stuffing his face with gross macaroons, and does something amazing- he teaches them how to sing tenor.
Wait- WHAT! Teaching SINGING? In a musical anime???? WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE!
And it's totally cringe, but at least valid. So they practice to Reika's playing and Maestro has to choose another tenor to replace IT-kun, and picks Yazawa-kun (precisely to give him a reason to not quit the choir- but doesn't make it obvious). The guy with pink hair actually looks a lot better without the silly face paint. Everyone looked a lot better in this episode actually....

This was by far the best episode this show has pulled out yet. Parts of it, like the piano that plays as Tenshi and Yazawa talk, the guitar during one of the interludes- are really pleasing; and all the parents coming to the school in the night to confront Maestro & Reika (who totally WEREN'T getting it on... riiiiight?) was a really great scene. Mrs Yazawa Taiga goes all tsundere (omg I love her) and Bartleby's dad says "Children should obey their parents!" to a kid who is big enough to be a wrestler... but my favorite part of all was when Taiga says to Maestro, do you even have a teaching license? and when he says he's a music teacher and can sing, she says briskly, "Well I'd like to hear it!"
When he cries "The choir is the only place these boys belong!" and all the parents say back in a chorus- "No it's not!" was quite funny.

So finally Maestro stands up in front of all of them who politely sit in chairs as the great Haruo Hibiki begins to sing. And he sounds terrible- but this time it's not incompetence or clumsiness on the part of the production, he is clearly proving that alone, a voice might not be enough that a choir is about singing together, as all the boys join him in the song. I only wish they could have picked A BETTER SONG.
The parents grudgingly agree to let their sons continue doing what they love, even (especially) Taiga.
There are still some problems, the color palette is so flat and the scenery the show offers is not much to look at. Apart from the last scene where they all walk out to the street after school closed. Really surprised by this episode, much better directing, writing, and was totally enjoyable. OR maybe I've just gotten used to the awkwardness of this anime so now it seems normal. I hope the rest of it can be this good.

Super cute episode, and I loved it since I love Ei-chan focused episodes. Glad he got through to his mom.

Also Haruo and Rikia sensei are the best duo this season, love how she has to be the sensible one all the time yet Haruo carries all the passion and impulsiveness like the kids so.

The singing moment was great and he looked so smug as if he's a great singer lol.

Aw I'm going to miss this in a few weeks. We need more anime like this.

it was only a select few's parents that were complaining. i guess the upperclassmen's folks are more concerned about their kid staying late for rehearsals.
