I'm not sure if it was a translation mistake, but the way it was portrait when they were talking about the MC taking pictures trauma, it felt like he knew about the girl bout to get swallowed by the tsunami, took the picture and posted on purpose + with the short flashback on latest episode it just implies that more

Edit: with the latest episode (ep 9) it all makes sense, and goddamn...

well, that would explain better his trauma.
though do remember that in a tsunami, very hardly can you just run from it. he prob saw her, and the tsunami, and, like he said this episode, just instinctively took a picture.

the Instinctively part of taking the photo I can understand, but still, to post something like that... this really does not sounds good, guess we will have to wait to see what lays under this incident

i don’t think it was a translation mistake. i don’t think he knew the girl either. he captured a little girls death on camera, and he SAW her before she was swept away. tsunami’s are quick, with little to no time to react. she probably never stood a chance. and that’s terrifying.

but who knows, this was only episode 6 after all!

I don't think I agree. A picture is worth a thousand words. He, as a photojournalist, took a tragic picture, and that picture communicates the tragedy of the tsunami to others. Would a journalist have been any better for writing that they witnessed a girl get swallowed by a tsunami? I don't think so. But there is a gut reaction that both you and the people in his past had that he was wrong to take the picture. I think that gut reaction is different with photojournalism for the same reason that those images can have a greater impact on people.

Many of the most impactful pictures by photojournalists have been pictures of suffering people. The photographer is just as incapable of helping as anyone else. But unlike other bystanders, the photographer is reporting that suffering with the world. And in this case, the world didn't appreciate it.

A lot of news reports of tragedies or wars come with pictures of victims and their homes, so it's not uncommon to see these type of photos. However, those are after they have survived some sort of incident. I guess people were extra harsh on our MC because without context, it seems like he was too busy taking a picture over saving a life, which has since passed. One could say though, it is like news stations posting videos of 9-11 or the Incheon Stampede or fires or car accidents -- it is shocking and tragic, and people try to direct their energy somehow. It's sort of the gray line in photojournalism.
