Can someone Explain the characters based on Authors' name

I have heard that BSD characters are based on real authors and their abilities as well. But how??

All the character's names are those of real authors, and said character's special ability is named after the most well known book by that author (Ex. Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human, Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, Francis Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, or Edgar Allan Poe's Black Cat in the Rue Morgue (Reference to both The Black Cat and The Murders in the Rue Morgue). The list goes on and on, if you just search any character's name you'll find their author and the books they wrote). Even other things such as the way characters dress or the names of organizations (Fyodor's Rats in the House of the Dead, reference to his author's book The House of the Dead) are references as well. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure does the same thing but with musical references instead

as the other guy said, every named character with an ability is named after an author (you probably wouldn't recognize the international ones beyond Dostoevsky, but for example, the guild has HP Lovecraft, F Scott Fitzgerald, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe etc. - Agatha Christie has also been mentioned a couple times)
and each ability is named after one of the author's writings (like how F Scott Fitzgerald has The Great Gatsby as an ability - the name was changed though - And Dostoevsky's most famous book: Crime and Punishment is his ability name. We also have a Moby Dick and Huckleberry Finn/Tom Sawyer)

itz very easy
start google sewrching every character without mentioning BSD, i recomend doing this for every character u feel interested into because its not only a good chunk of cultured information but also an absolutely genius concept
take Ryuunosuke Akutagawa for example, he was a writter that wrote a book called Roshomon, it was about the stealing of a piece of clothing, a kimono, and the morality behind its tefth. hence why Roshomon (the ability) has to do with the character black clothing (linked to the stolen kimono and black symbolizing the negative morality of tefth)
Its just one of many examples and i think its a very unique topic of research that youll find fulfilling discovering, at least i did 😅

Also besides the fact that they are based on authors they are some characters that arent for example Naomi Tanizaki, since she isn't a writer, she is a main character of Junichiro Tanizaki book "Naomi" or Nobuko Sazaki which is based of Kunikida's first wife.
Also some characters not only have name and ability name as their writer but for example Dazai Osamu is suicide maniac since the author he is based of try to cimmit suicide few times and died in 1948 by commiting one. Or there is smth like opposite similarity like Ranpo was more fan of Poe than opposite since his name is japanese pronouctatioon of Poes name or I think it was more like Dazai irl liked Akutagawa since Akutagawa irl died in 1927 without even hearing of Dazai.

yupp they’re right. irl ranpo’s full pen name, edogawa ranpo, is a direct reference to edgar allen poe. see:

edgar allan poe →「エドガー・アラン・ポー(edogaa aran poo)」→ edogaaaranpo → edogawa ranpo (えどがわ・らんぽ)→江戸川乱歩.

ranpo itself also means “random walk” which is often referenced in the show by ranpo’s inability to navigate and needing ada members to guide for him
