They're not identical twins. I don't know if it's that you don't know the difference or that you were just confused because they were made to look very similar but I'm going to explain anyways.
There are two different types of twins.
1) monozygotic (identical) twins: There is only one fertilized egg and after the first mitosis it splits in two creating two eggs with the same exact DNA. Those result in two children with the same looks that can only have the same sex.
2) dizygotic twins: There are two different eggs that get fertilized by two different sperms. Those two eggs result in two children with different DNA that can have the same or different sex and can be different in appearance. They can, however, look similar (like siblings of different ages can also happen to look similar) depending on how miosis happens, which I'm assuming is the case for the twins in the show.

@weebtoge The twins can be of different genders HAHAHAHA (There is a reason why in Spanish there are the words "mellizo" and "gemelo"), we already started with the progressive themes and arguments as poor as Spider Gwen (about her colors)
I have been told that my little sister is my female version and we are not twins or anything like that (with this I want to get to the point that these types of twins can also be very identical)

| @eduardoromanvera first, I dont speak Spanish, so no idea wtf you talking about. second, there's two different kinds of twins. identical twins, in which 99% of the time are born with the same sex, and non identical twins, that can be born with different genders. that's basic biology, and I remember putting emphasis on the "identical twins". headcanons aren't harmful, so I don't understand why you say "poor" spider Gwen. Lastly, what does them being poor and conservative have anything to do with the whole point? Ah, also, what I want is just to share my thoughts on the anime community, especially as a transgender person who sees very little representation nowadays (even tho we used to have much more like in Soul eater, Sailor Moon, Saint Seiya, etc.) It's not harmful. This is supposed to be fun and for >everyone< to enjoy. As I put on the post, I'm allowed to dream. |

Oh you'd be surprised by how many people I've met who don't know basic biology. But I study biomedical sciences so I'm always glad to explain. It wasn't clear from your post if you just didn't know how the different types of twins work or if you just wanted to headcanon the brother as a trans man because the twins look very similar. Well, it wasn't directly stated in the show that they're not identical twins so it's a valid headcanon to have. It's highly unlikely considering chinese censorship (I mean they did try to remove every bl element from mo dao zu shi, an adaptation of a clearly gay novel) but there's no harm in it.
| @eruribrainrot ooh, that's so cool, when I was a kid, I wanted to study biomedical science or chemistry, but I ended up in graphic design lmao. yeah, it's just a small hc that popped up in my mind, in case they are identical. I also think it's very unlikely, because of the censorship, even in some animes like Given, they were censored... I always find it nice to be able to use this small opening that the anime gives us to create a hc! |
