The deal with type zero maguses

though I wonder what use did zero maguses had if they have this specialty compared to regular magus that we've seen thus far, or what exactly lead to their discontinued production, if magus are built in a way a robot would be.

It'd make whole lot of sense for zero type magus to be an old type with a different function compared to current magus that we know and considering where Kanata retrieved her from, it looked like it was a dire situation for the drifter - judging by the coffin's heavily damaged state and none of what it might had, same with the camera that Kanata picked up on as well.
Though in the same episode when Claudia appeared with her Magus with the crystal and with the daisy scene, Noir's memory had set a sort of contextual hologram in her mind and her personality even shifted from that as well. (Also scene before flamme gave the suggestion of a name to Kanata's coffin), though this is just what I and you probably know at the moment. Until then, it's hard to really say without speculating without some source to go off of.

Fair enough I suppose, the way some magus perceive emotion could be quite different than to someone like Noir or other type zeroes, though the way Ciel interprets that; it could be something else to me.
