does this have any similarities to the original gunnm(battle angel alita)?

I read some where that the anime version of this and the manga version is very different and the anime ending is much darker and the anime is more series is it true?

also i've heard that the protagonist battle droid or whatever is alot like alita from gunnm can some one confirm? im interesting in seeing this after,
because I don't want to read another yokohama  Kaidashi etc even though its decent, I just don't like slice of life romances if this is another one of those.

Haven't watched Gunnm so I can't answer that.
It's not "very different", it's just like FMA and FMAB. When the 2nd season was airing, the manga was far from over so the anime went full original near the end. Even if not canon, the anime ending wasn't THAT far from the manga ending, the development and the way things happen are the main difference, but the idea is basically the same.
Idk why this show would be called "dark" tbh, both manga and anime are mostly wholesome/romantic type of moments without major problems until it reaches the final arc, but if we compare like that i would say the anime ending is "darker" because it's not a happy ending, unlike the manga ending.
