"Far, far to the west, across the sea, there is a land called Vinland. It's warm and fertile. It's a faraway land, without slave traders and without war."

Both of the times, when Thors or Thorfinn says this line, it gives me goosebumps. The way they speak, the change in atmosphere when they say it, it's just hits so hard. So i really wanted a romaji translation of this line. The quote is beautiful, please help me.

"Haruka no nishi, taikai no mukou ni, Vinland to iuna no to chi ga aru. Soko wa atatakaku, yutaka de, dorei shou nin mo, ikusa no honon mo todokanai, tooi chi da. Soko nara, kitto anata mo kurushimasu ni ikite ikeru. Arnheid-san, oretachi to ishou ni, soko e ikou. Vinland ni, heiwana kuni wo tsukuro."

Did my best with the exact words Thorfinn says in Episode 20. In "ikusa no _____ mo todokanai", I'm not sure of the blank word. But everything else is accurate to what he says.

At the time Leif found Vinland , there was no slaves and wars , yes , but it later did.
Obviously , it was initiated by the Vikings who wished to get the lands for themselves.
After their victory , there apparently wasn't any war for around 500 years , until the Iroquois.

Couldn’t agree more, this series has been absolutely beautiful, both the manga and anime.

@DStoppa the kanji used in the manga scene is '大海', which can be read multiple ways. One of them is 'daikai' or 'taikai'.

You are right in that '海' is the kanji for 'umi' (ocean/sea), but 'kai' is another reading for it. The first kanji - '大' - 'dai/tai', you use to add a qualifier to anything to mention that it is large.

A more literal translation of what's written in the manga would be "beyond the large sea", which makes sense in their context, given the Atlantic Ocean is the biggest water body they've seen. But it wouldn't add much value to translate it like that.

As for what I wrote here originally, that was straight from the anime, where Thorfinn pronounces it as 'taikai' (or it could be daikai, my ears don't work well).
