| I think the main backlash is not about the gender of each character but rather the ruining of the parent-child relationship they had which was the selling point of the manga in the first place for most readers. So even if the roles are reversed, it would still be quite hated for having destroyed the amazing story it managed to build up till then. |

| Once a relationship between parent and child is ruined, there is no turning back. It doesn't matter if genders were reversed or not, the bond between them is sullied and disgraced regardless. |
