Were Senpai's male friends introduced before this episode? I feel like they just appeared out of nowhere during that skiing segment. I was under the impression that he didn't have any male friends. Or is it just me forgetting stuff?

On a different note, this was another great episode and I'm excited for the next one.

same here. when i saw the teaser at the end of the previous episode i was like "oh? are those his male friends?" because i think this is the first time they're introduced

No they werent introduced in the manga either. We just have to accept he has some male friends. They werent be as prominent as Gamo or Yoshi so dont worry

I think they are more like classmates, also making friends through the way shows how I started to be a bit more confident.

you're right.
but it would have been better to have explored how senpai managed to get close to these people, not just put them here

it would be good for his development to show that he can now make friends on his own

Well manga artists are very interesting. Some times we just gotta accept a random appearance without context. I don’t recall senpais friends even being introduced at all unless it was part of a flashback scene in the first season?

They are his friends and I'm pretty sure they always have been (based in the fact that they not only call him by his first name, but a nickname form of it, not "Hachiouji-kun"), it's just that the bulk of the anime/manga takes place in the art club room, a club they're obviously not a part of. We never see Naoto on his own in class, and all the assumptions that he had no friends were based entirely on insults from Nagatoro.

They were only introduced in this part in the manga as well. Honestly not that weird that Senpai had some friends in the background, maybe not close friends, but still some friends.
