We have all been there.
While it is true, that first half is vastly inferior, it is still a must to watch in order to know who those characters are and where they come from.
It is an adaptation of VN and it shows with each girl having her own short arc. Clannad trukt starts once Tomoya confesses to Nagisa.

i also finished it one week ago.
to me first season was not great but it was not boring.
and Second season really great From Start to finish.
Second half made me cry Multiple times even though i was Already spoiled.

i was pretty dubious too lol. ive never cried reading a book, or watching a movie or tv series, but when it hit, it hit hard, and i cried for 6 episodes straight lmao. and now its my second favorite show of all time. even season 1. all of it is 10/10

I felt similarly about the first season, even made a post asking if I should've dropped it at the time. And then Clannad ended up becoming one of my favorites with Afterstory lol

The only negative of the first season is that the Fuuko arc lasted a tad bit long but otherwise it is a pretty decent, visually beautiful romance drama show with likeable characters and funny comedic moments. I mean yeah everything would seem shit compared to how amazing Afterstory is but on its own Clannad first season is a solid 7-8/10

i agree dude s1 is there just for character devlopment sake ,s2 is totally different show and its first anime to make me cry like a baby and it made me cry after years in my life and forever be top of my anime list and all ost s still in my mind i like this show so much atleast u complete it that makes me happy

That's the thing people call ''After Story effect'' ig, well that happens a lot in this age because genres that people watch changed a lot. At least people do appreciate beauty of After Story.

Clannad s1 type of slice of lifes aren't common, now majority of anime watchers would like to see some isekai with slice of life elements ''somehow'' instead of slice of life. As you said ''thats cool, I guess.''

For me, i enjoyed s1 as much as After Story and that made me love Clannad more.

The first season and first half of the second season were very important for me to get to know the characters and their struggles, so I would never call it trash.
