| If your father dies and then your mother abandons you, you can either be helpless and dependent upon others, or you can grow up fast. At the beginning of our story, Kagumo was helpless and alone. But she was never dependent on others. She took the steps to buy a Cub and get her license. That led to her friendship with Reiko, with whom she is so close as to be on a first name basis! Now we see her confidently change the tire on a stranger's bike, then kick the smug kid in the shin when he forgets to thank her. Three things are clear now. Koguma is truthful and always speaks her mind. She is confident in her skills. She is not dependent on anyone. |
