I’ve enjoyed the show thus far, so I’m wondering if I have a lot to look forward to because alternate seasons are way better, or if it just goes downhill from here.

I've seen all Precure seasons to date, and Delicious is a very average season. Far from my favorites, but still very enjoyable.

Answering your question, you might find some better seasons, some others not as good, and some others at the same level.

This season has been alright. While I've enjoyed certain parts of the show, I feel it has many problems. It's not the worst season I've seen, but they could have done better with this one. If you want to jump into other Cure seasons, I would suggest starting with Smile Precure or Fresh Precure and then Heartcatch Precure. These 3 are really good seasons that I've enjoyed. After that, watch whatever season you feel like. Some are good, and some are alright.

Unfortunately, Delicious Party was a really disappointing season. There are a lot of things I feel were criminally under-utilized, especially Yui as the main Cure. Yui as the Pink Cure practically got no substantial character development. There were many production issues and I suspect Yui became the sacrificial lamb for said issues. The plot doesn't introduce any real stakes until mid-way through the season, so it was difficult to feel engaged with the story's events.

There were interesting experimentations like Rosemary and Black Pepper's roles, which I liked a lot, since the sidekicks/allies don't usually get this much development. Ran (Cure YumYum) also kept me watching for quite a long time since she was personally a very relatable character. Still, as the anime went on it became slightly boring with so many slice-of-life episodes, yet a lot of plot points and clues that were introduced and never clarified properly. If they were clarified, they were repeatedly slid into random moments in episodes, or they weren't given enough room to be fleshed out to their full potential.

Precure tends to be philosophical with its messages but the tone this season was very different, and I see the purpose of this change as trying to appeal to the target audience of the show which are children. There's no problem with that, but lean toward that tone too much, and you're going to lose any audience outside of your target. And I don't think that's something you want to go for.

Bad season if you ask me. I really hope the next one will be a lot better.
