First things first, of course I can be wrong about all I'm writing and what will determine if the anime gets new seasons, I'm just talking from experience when expecting new seasons. And I'm writing this because I'd like to see this "arc" animated.
As you know, the anime is probably being made to attract new players to the game. Although, Hypergryph is known for giving a lot of stuff to fans (i/e music, clips, short animations), but I don't think the anime is the case here.
Contrary to normal anime which the main goal is to sell merch (figures, bluray and stuff) after the season ends and future seasons depends on that, I think future seasons of Arknights will depend on how many new players will appear after this season ends. Maybe after that they will change to merch selling (?).
Thing is, without spoilers and only mentioning Chapters and Acts, this season will probably stop at the end of Act 0 (chapters 0-3). In the game and Act 0 is more about introducing the world and laying ground to Act 1 (chapters 4-8), and believe me, During the whole Act 1 the story is much longer and richer than Act 0. EACH CHAPTER.
If you want a little spoiler:
Act 0 introduces the world, what is Oripathy and how it affects the world, economics, social issues, and starts developing what will happen in Lungmen (Ch'en's city), some main villains will be introduced later, and their background will be heavily explored (I mean very) during Act 1, with Lungmen story ending there.
With all that said, I like how the pace is going, they didn't rush things up until now and the characters and world introduction is being very well done, but here are my concerns:
According to MAL, the first season is getting only 8 episodes, that's very little lel, even if it finishes at the end of the Act 0. So they might start rushing a little soon.
If they are doing 8 episodes to Act 0, which is very short, Act 1 would need at least 24 episodes (2 full seasons) if they rush. Are they commited enough to that?
Arknights could be compared to animes with heavy emphasis on politics and dialogue, more about strategic fights than flashy ones, but when the flashy ones happen sh*t gets real, lol. And usually people start watching these animes expecting a lot of flashy fights when it's not really about that, that's when the score gets hammered.
They could really just be doing the anime as a promo material, with that strategy "want to know what happens next? Play the game (read the novel/manga/etc)".
If they are aiming at the merch selling strategy, we do have a lot of Arknights merch, from Nendoroids to very expensive figures, to simple stuff like charms and mousepads. But their stock was never big, with products being sold out within hours, since their main income source is the in-game shop.
Yostar pictures have a bad reputation, but the Hypergryph is extremely involved in the anime (read "but" below)
And some things that gives me hope:
the game's community have been waiting for an anime for about 3 years now (counting the CN server), and from what I've seen inside groups, the feedback is very positive.
The game is still going on (not only new characters and events, but new main story, which is honestly one of the strong points of the game) and it's future is looking very solid.
I've never seen Hypergryph do halfas*ed stuff. Yostar may be the publisher, but in the community everyone only talks about Hypergryph since they are always extremely involved with everything related to the game, even global material and advertising. That is very much the contrary when you look at other games Yostar is publishing (Blue Archive JP, Azur Lane). tl;dr everyone only talks about HG lel.
HG is so committed that they even created a child company called Monster Siren to make the music related to Arknights.
Anyways, I think most fans of the game want to see this to the end (even chapter 9 onward lol), but I can't help when feeling anxious about this so I decided to write this topic to see what others are thinking, lel.
Hope you all have a nice weekend (it's saturday here by the time I'm posting this).
We are poised to finish chapter 3 by the end of the season we are already in chapter 1 by episode 2.
But I agree that they have a long road ahead of them if they want to adapt chapters 0-8.
The executive producer is lowlight, the producer is the head artist hoshieve, and the animation studio animation (primarily in-house) is owned by the publisher. That speaks volumes to the confidence the creatives behind the game have in their own project. So personally I think they are all in to make this a reality.

Lol, I confused chapter with Act, I'm going to fix te text lol. Thanks
Honestly next act should be at least 26 episodes
rough estimate would be 6 ep for 4/5
6 ep for 6
6 ep for 7
10 ep for 8
but this is quite rushed and it would be ideal to have 30+ episodes

Yeah, ideally it could have 50+ episodes, if they really want to dig deep into the lore and flashbacks.
If they do around 20-30 episodes they will probably skip a lot of the
flashbacks from Talulah, Patriot and Frostnova.
Arknights have the potential to be a long and amazing anime, but I don't think the big part of the public would enjoy tho, considering the fact that Arknights it's more about the world's history and politics than action.

I think I agree with all of your worries and points. In fact, let me thank you for writing what is exactly in my mind xD.
I think people underestimate how fast we can get through some of the things, given that the anime can show way more than describing and the dialogue can be streamlined a lot. It becomes a bit more complicated when it gets to the politics, but even then it is not really a problem, as there are still things that take up a lot of time in the game that could be fixed with like 30 seconds of actual picture of the scene.

Well, I hope you're right, but arknights ain't a Light Novel, it's more of a visual novel and there is barely any descriptions during dialogue. But sure, a big part of the dialogue can be cut, but still, if they cut too much it will lose meaning like I've seen it happening a lot of times when adapting Visual Novels.
Inorichi said: There also seems to be quite a decent amt of merch with the blu ray box with extra footage, and store exclusive merch too. So I don't think "new-player-count" is the only main factor that'll drive a sequel. It'll probably be a mix of blu-ray sales, player counts, and merch sales?
Yeah, I was thinking about that too, it would make a lot of sense if they want to combine it all and they have the ability to do so.
Inorichi said: Also Arknights has jumped +65 spots to the top 10 grossing apps in the JP play store after ep 2 so...
That's actually great to read. I wasn't following the ranks, ty for the info.
Arknights chapter 8 is about the same length as Babylone on FGO, it took 21 episode to animate Babylone (with little skip), so that means you need minimum 2 cour also just for arknights chap 8.
Edit: you also have to count the event centered on W's past, which is very important to the main story that must absolutely be done before chapter 7
Yeah the pacing is fast skipping up some of the scenes but I'd say it is fine for first 4 chapters as they are the weakest which gets better as it goes. Ch4~8 has a lot of world building and needs a lot of episodes. Personally I think the anime is just a promotional thing for the game, after all it is the source material
